I never use plugs included in the box to record the sound setting. With a little experience we find very quickly that we seek. The absence of memory and preset is in my opinion a quality that requires the user to be creative all the time.


SOUNDS

The sounds they agree your style of music? This is my first MiniBrute analog synthesizer. From the classical guitar, I adapt MiniBrute of sounds with guitar sounds to create a happy marriage. Having no other analog synthesizer, I have no material to compare. However it is clear that I no longer will touch one VSTi: turn the knobs to search or discover a sound is so enjoyable, and analog grain definitely bury any digital software.

Are they realistic? Given the nature of the machine, do not expect to get out of the sounds imitating certain instruments of the orchestra. Even if one can roughly imitate the sound of a clarinet, it will look more like a clarinet sound out of a Game Boy instead of the Berlin Philharmonic. But the interest is not there, in fact, the sound palette of MiniBrute only matched by the imagination of the man behind the instrument. It is quite fun and instructive to try to imitate sounds known: wind, cow, cat, R2D2, a fly on the floor dying after taking a pschit insecticide in the face ...

Are the effects effective and responsive? There are no built-in effect in the MiniBrute, personally I just sticks it a slight reverb and that's enough.

Expression is it good? The two dials and aftertouch allow nice expressiveness, especially since they are adjustable. The keyboard is nice although there is two octaves.

What are the sounds you prefer, you hate? Very good for bass, lead the beep, the squeaker, the BRRrraaaowOOoaoowwaoWw ... This synthesizer can be a monster if you push a little fader and knobs, especially the raw torque factor / filter. But it can also be very soft and this is what I enjoy most. It should not place undue reliance on demonstration videos that abound on the Internet; they do not reflect a comprehensive view of the instrument. Too often the demonstrators push the fader thoroughly, abusing the gross factor and Metalizer modulates excessive, while with a little finesse in the settings, the resulting sound becomes much more interesting and musical. Anyway, it depends what you trying to do too; In short, the MiniBrute can make music as noise.

UTILIZATION

It is an analog synth with all its buttons, as is often said, a Function button.
This is partly true, because there are certain parameters that must be configured by software, but this is the kind of parameters that rule once (Velocity curve, midi channel ...). Personally, I used the software once, to see what it was, I did nothing to change the configuration.

OVERALL OPINION

Great sound (s!) for electro, rock, funk, rap, reggae, dub ... Lets soft sounds and vintage, are the aggressive and modern ...
I use it mostly for reggae dub bass lines so 80's King Jammy's, Doughie Wardrop ... and for FXs and analog percussion. The filter, the noise and the "gross factor" (saturation feedback sound in the filter) are really cool about it.
The 12dB HP / LP / BP / notch filter is "grainy" it has character! (You can also have smooth sounds, you worry!)

OVERALL OPINION

Very good purchase for a first analog if you start (compare his sound and a moog filter, a DSI, MFB Vermona ... or else to be on the sound you want!).
Perfect complement other analog or softwares (incomparable!), I put a 9/10 for build quality, which is a cheap Studio Electronics or a Moog for example.

Monophonic analog synthesizer with only one oscillator, non-dynamic keyboard (except as midi controller) with aftertouch, 1 LFO, arpeggiator 1, no memory and that's it.

UTILIZATION

Very easy to use for someone who has experience in programming, we can find the sound you want, but he's made has only one oscillator is can not ask the moon either ...
We find various vintage sounds pleasantly with another more modern personality.
Editing sounds is easy, but as there is no memory and the buttons are very sensitive it is difficult even taking a photo to find the exact sound that has been set, it must rely more has ears that view.

There is only one oscillator but MiniBrute covers a wide range of sounds despite knowing that some sounds will never be possible to make this done.

A little flat for me I think the filter envelope does not slap very strongly, although it can be fast, but not suitable for sound type (acid), I would say that sounds MiniBrute + soft and not too gross to made which does not displease me.

Personally I find it very appropriate in relation to the round envelopes to make sounds funky 70 or early 80's new wave.

OVERALL OPINION

I bought a few days ago and I already see these limits as these qualities, the sound is very accurate in the settings, I like a little less than its slightly soft shells and especially the made that there have not backup sounds (in 2013), I thought a quick and easy solution to store my patches for now is i-phone + application to write the name on the photo and then integrate them into a folder in computer, a little long but effective after it is always adjusted to the ear as sound as I said above the knobs have a little run and very accurate, difficult to find the exact sound as the had left but you get raproche strongly anyway.

I lay still an overall score of 9 because the interface is flawless, the sound is in the top of the dish, the quality is very good, the touch keyboard is very nice, the sound palette is very broad and include colors full of vintage keyboards before 2000.

A little extra is the syncro by usb arpeggiator and LFO at the same time! Yum ^ ^
And excellent mixer section of the oscillator and the speed to get the sound that was in my head as long as it is not very complicated and vintage and finally the overall sound of minibrut is how to say music ranging from very soft to very soft and straight forward drive of all integrated perfectly in the mix.

UTILIZATION

The manual is very well done and the synth is well in hand: each parameter can be accessed directly by a knob, which makes it very simple and intuitive, it is a particular joy on stage.

SOUNDS

Sound level, a true delight: the MiniBrute can send very heavy and knows how to be a place of choice in the mix as well as on stage. I often read on forums that the MiniBrute was more "aggressive": it has much more of the image it gives (the name "MiniBrute", the "gross factor", the "Metalize") that of reality: it is also perfectly capable of producing sounds very "old-school", warm and soft to serve wisely provided that the oscillator section (I will return below). And it is also effective for leads that to keep the low frequencies of a song.
edit: I see a notice indicating that it is worse in lower than the old analos. I do not have the chance to make this comparison for the moment, but I can assure that it can clearly hold the bass very convincing concert given the feedback I got. And as I write down, a tad gross factor enriches the low end very musical way.

Note that there are no presets, which does not suit everyone. For me, it's part of the pleasure of handling the machine: it pushes to master the machine to the end and managed to quickly find the sounds to the ear. (For patches too twisted). For more complex patches, you have to take a photo or use the friendly sheets presets provided by Arturia to record and reproduce rapidly settings.

To return to the oscillator section, you should know that you can choose how the volume is sent to the oscilloscope filter: it clearly changes the behavior of the filter. More volume is sent, the more it becomes "aggressive" and more resonant "hook".
To stay in a range of round and warm sound, so keep the volume of the oscilloscope rather low. (One-third of the stroke for example).

Modulations are relatively few but all very thoughtful and ingenious (except maybe the destination VCA LFO whose behavior is somewhat against-intuitive and does not produce a simple classic tremolo)

The machine has only one oscillator oscillator but what! It produces three waveforms that you can mix them and a suboscillateur (sine or square). But even more, it offers to each of these waveforms a "modifier" of his to enrich the sound.
Of particular note, the modifier "metalizer" the triangle that is specific to waveshapper MiniBrute and musical. By combining these modifiers (eg Ultrasaw the sawtooth metalizer +) and activating the sub-tilt, we arrive at a fantastic sound thick.
Note that the "metalizer" can certainly make "metal" sound but also allows for some beautiful wooded sounds, by not pushing the knob fully and playing the LP or BP filter.

The filter itself is a killer, and may enter into self-oscillation both in band-pass low pass. When you push the resonance, the effect is still very musical, either for or rather round sounds very aggressive sounds. I had a little hesitation in buying it on the fact that it is not a 12dB and a 24dB/octave, but after several concerts and pieces with only one thing to say: it sounds fire god!

The gross-factor parameter (many demos on the net abuse alas) is also a real plus: it can provide a very interesting and warm grain in the lower spectrum used sparingly. The more you shoot, the more the behavior of the sound becomes distorted, noisy and innattendu.

Among the extras to live: the arpeggiator has a tap tempo, so we can happily sync with a real drummer if desired.

The connection is very comprehensive and well thought out. A headphone output, audio output-out, USB, CV OUT and IN, Audio IN ... The MiniBrute is very social and talk to a computer as well as to other analog machines.



OVERALL OPINION

If you have arrived at the overall view, you understand that I think the MiniBrute is a great investment, amazing sound quality for price pokey. I chose it also because it is a synthetic character in my opinion, has not hesitated to innovate a little in the field of neo-analogy rather than trying to imitate an ancient legend. And the gamble has paid off: the MiniBrute has a character of its own sturdy and sounds as good live as in the studio in a mix.

I had tried many other monophonic synths before buying, but that's just his personality a little part that has me leaning in his favor, and the fact that there are NO settings hidden in sound: the man-machine communication is optimal.

It's a choice I do it again with your eyes closed, I also purchased a second for my live set ...

Edit: I see in some opinion that the lack of presets is considered too disturbing for some:
1) backup presets would have considerably increased the price
2) sincerely, when the machine is mastered, you are able to redo the patch memory or in the ear, and it takes 10 or 15 seconds between songs for not too complex patches. Nothing so insurmountable but must actually take this and know the machine on the fingertips to be comfortable live.

I've had it a week, and it's been a year since I started to invest in a project electric music.
I turned for one year with logic pro: + mass Sylenth1, etc. etc. looking for that sound (a mixture of a bit daft / justice / oizo, I finally found it!

I was looking for a not too mastoc analog, ideal for mobile use with a powerful sound.
IF arturia had to release a version without a keyboard, I'm interested.

The MiniBrute is a 25 key analog synthesizer that has a 3 waveform oscillator and a noise generator. The keys are pretty good for it to just be a 25 key synth. They have nice expressiveness and after touch. The MiniBrute does have pitch and modulation wheels plus two oscillator types, Ultrasaw and Metalizer. The Vibrato LFO does have 3 modes, sine, trill down and trill up. The MiniBrute is made for the portable musician. It is well built and has a solid structure, you could probably run a car over it and it would still be intact.

UTILIZATION

Setting it up is simple, but understand it will take some effort. There are a lot of knobs and sliders on it. you will need to read through the manual to understand what these knobs and sliders do. Most of them are labeled but if you don’t have a general knowledge of working with a full analog synth then it could give you a headache trying to figure it out. Take the time to read through the manual and do some research on working with a analog synth before you purchase the MiniBrute.

SOUNDS

The MiniBrute is very affordable and portable. If you are looking for a analog synth to get your feet wet with than the MiniBrute is perfect for you. It has 2 audio outputs and a built in arpeggiator. The thing is, there are no presets on this synth as with most full analog synths.

OVERALL OPINION

So every single sound that it makes you will have to create. That could push some of the beginners away , but if you are a seasoned producer and understand working with analog synths this is a must have for your collection. The distortion on the MiniBrute is pretty good, it is called the Brute Factor. You will not be unhappy if you purchase this, it will remain a part of your gear for a long time.

In summary, this is a monophonic analog monophonic synth oscillator, which can serve as a gateway bonus to other analog synths with input / output CV / gate.

UTILIZATION

The work of Yves Usson reference modular synth in France, finds himself in the side "maximum potential in a minimum of space." This is obviously great thinking machine, the possibilities are impressive, but nothing makes gadget; each command / option is justified by a real contribution to the creation of sound.
An example? The LFO section, which in a few square centimeters can simultaneously modulate the oscillator, filter, volume waveforms waveforms saw-tooth and square, with each one different ampitude, which speed can be set manually or synchronized with the arpeggiator (which hides a mini sequencer 12 ratings) and offers 7 different waveforms including a random "sample & hold" with portamento! The keyboard has a light touch with aftertouch, mono to drive the Minibrute but of course polyphonic control other synths by Midi Out.
No storage memory, to minimize costs and stay in the spirit of classic monosynths with "everything under the eyes." Arturia provides "caches" that come to rest on the device letting controls in order to note their position. Nice idea, but I prefer to keep a smartphone on hand to "save" my sounds a photo.

The oscillator sounds great, both musical and punchy, and offers a level of customization of its impressive 3 waveforms plus a noise generator, plus a sub oscillator, each element mixable precisely, each of the three forms wave has also its own customization parameter: Ultrasaw for the "saw-tooth" metallizer for triangle and width modulation for square (rectangle stroke). The sub-oscillator repeats the same note but one or two octaves lower waveform smooth (sinusoidal) or more aggressive (square).
The filter is used when musical resonance with finesse, but if you push it ... It's brutal! It was he who gave his name to the synth?

OVERALL OPINION

Some remarks in bulk:
- I tested the output CV / gate with the Eurorack modular synth that I rode until the MB arrives: it works perfectly, oscilloscopes and modular envelopes follow the hair.
- The pitch wheel is adjustable from January to December semitones (and not 11 as I seem to have seen a test prototype)
- The center / neutral pitch wheel is a bit too wide, which makes it difficult if you want regular glissando from below the note played on the keyboard and finish on top (or vice versa)
- The test is sometimes called AF pbs response keyboard was a pb is pre-set or I'm lucky, but I have not found abnormal.

You should also know: the start of production was delayed due to a change in plant last minute, it is still difficult (September 2012) to obtain a ... I had to wait a little less than two months to receive mine.
I just guitar and digital synthesis (VST) so I'm not an expert, but I doubt that another analog monosynth of this size has already offered many possibilities for sculpting its sound.
At this price, it is a gift ... The machine of the year, and hopefully the first of many family.
