UTILIZATION

The device is very simple to use. We consult the manual on a few points (export files, for example), but overall, if you know how to use a microwave or a washing machine, you are qualified to register with the DP-008. The potentiometers are handy. The manual is clear.

Note that formatting the SD card and the (long) file conversion. Waw are a little baroque, but it's just history to be rude

SOUNDS

Regarding sound business spoil a little. Let us: for the price, and given that for which the unit is designed, DP-008 is not to throw away, but he is not blameless.
1. The headphone amp is outrageous: it introduces breath and proves clearly undersized if you plug in a headset with a little serious impedance exceeds headphones all-comers. It was still a pleasant surprise, once the files transferred to a computer sequencer, to see that blizzard steppe fell.
2. The pre-amps are in my opinion the biggest weakness: difficult to exploit them seriously, including pickups with high output (KM184, C414). Entering in line for a preamp is much better and there is less shame the result. I said I'm still pretty intolerant breath ...

Converters do their job. Again, no need to compare them with the studio equipment, but the momentum is not ridiculous.

The reverb is correct and has the luxury to be configurable.

OVERALL OPINION

In conclusion, Tascam is a concept very attractive, a well made and ergonomic. Too bad as it is, ie without meaning to my preamp out, it can allow some serious recordings and remains confined to the role of musical notepad. The day the same fate Tascam unit with preamp DR-680, DP-008 is terrible, which is not the case now.
