The Rane Serato Scratch Live is no longer being made, its actually been replace with its upgraded version the Rane SL 2. But for those of us who have used or have the SL 1 we know they they still provide support for it even though its no longer being manufactured. It actually still gets updated pretty frequently if you are subscribed to the mailing list.


GETTING STARTED

Serato scratch Live is really easy to understand just start it up and get going. Getting started was a breeze and I think I may have only had 1 crash or freeze up with it and that was because I was using it on a very old dell laptop that just couldn’t handle it. But when I use it on my other laptop it works great, it worked great on my dell laptop great just that one time wasn’t so good.


SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

The manual to this device is one of the easiest manuals ever, I only opened it just to look around at the features when I first got it and the manual really seemed to be watered down. But its not watered down its just that easy to understand.


OVERALL OPINION

Overall, it’s a great program , and even though its no longer being made you can get the upgraded version which has more features its called the Rane SL2. You will love these product and it will keep your creative juices flowing. So load up those mp3’s that you love and listen to each day and start scratching and mixing them up. This program can do it all, the Ran Serato is a must buy item to have in your arsenal especially if you are just getting started you wont find an easier program to get cracking with. I highly recommend this or at least the upgraded version since this one is no longer being made.

- What characteristics have motivated your choice?
The new version 1.8 which includes loops, cues, and native support for the wheel on the HC4500 DN. (Seems that the 1.8.1 will be in full).

- For what purpose?
Mix 95%

- What is your config (Motherboard / CPU / Ram / Hard ,...)?
An old laptop with an XP2400 + PB M, 480Mo of RAM and 32MB of shared video (that is happiness! )

- Which instruments and systems (console, preamp, DTD ...) you use it and how connections? ...
PDX 2300 & DJM707 and as soon as available HC4500 DN & DN X050 (subject to successful 1.8.1).

GETTING STARTED

- The installation is done it without problems?
Theoretically yes, actually the 1.6 I reported a problem where mass or 1.8 does not move with nothing changed (weird). Impossible to have perfect circles but apparently it does not interfere with the app.

- Have you experienced any incompatibilities?
No, just reduce the level of graphical refresh and latency not to gun down my pc.

- The general configuration is easy?
Yes, I think that's the main argument of this app.

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

- What is the configuration of your computer? (Motherboard / CPU / Ram / Disk / sound card ..)
- The software works he correctly on this configuration?

This is where it gets stuck, an old laptop with an XP2400 + PB M, 480Mo of RAM. With the 1.6 it was going, the new 1.8 is much heavier and so my pc is a little head at times. (Stalls).
Disabling the TC I get to save 20/25% cpu occupancy, with a MIDI controller so it could still go some time.

- What performance? (If quantifiable)
Good, just 2-3 stalls / hour. It would increase latency but sensation level it becomes inconsistent, so I made a choice ...

- This software + hardware is stable?
I have not yet bcp mixed with this version but I did not crash.

OVERALL OPINION

- How long have you use it?
I kept my 1.6, one week, the 1.8 I've had it about 1 month.

- What is so special that you like most and least?
The sound quality (compared to a dedicated box with other soft).
The visual: the colors of waveforms troubles my sight, and that information will be essential in the white circle in the marker.

- Have you tried many other models before buying it?
Yes bcp, bcp, I had just tested or I would avoid the listing ...

- How would you rate the quality / price?
Prohibitive: 600euros why not exaggerate, you pay the brand. A product I would like any more € 350/400.

- With experience, you do again this choice? ...
Well, for now it's mixed. You need a big machine to run it but they started to realize additional functions and south. In addition to the development of ITCH will certainly benefit Scratch Live as well. So yes, provided ...
