Old model 70 or 80 (the seller did not know very well) bought used for 300 euros, with skins EVANS Hydraulic Double Fold Bath Oil Blue and hardware (soon replaced, see below) without cymbals .

For about 10 years

Have you tried many other models before buying it?
Two other models. A drumkit unbranded to redo my hand after a long journey through the desert, then another hand TAMA which is revealed in a deplorable state.

What is the particular feature you like best and least?
The least: quality hardwares. I quickly bought feet charley and cymbals and a pedal GC.
Snare: A sound bowl, replaced a PEARL signing Shad Smith.
The suspension of Toms.
What I like most: quality, even if it is not a high-end, it's tough, and sound (if choosing good skin) is a very good level for amateur I am.

How would you rate the quality / price?
Ideal (but bought used)

With experience, you do again this choice?
For use in the same circumstances, yes. But if the music takes on a more important role in my life, I will invest in a range of higher level.


In summary: This TAMA now with me for ten years and it has never failed me. Its (possible) replacement pinch my heart and I think I will keep it anyway.

My Tama Swingstar in 1984 and has been used extensively. Very solid, no breakage problem. I do not know if newer models are identical.

Before this I had a ... Asama I believe, so obviously the Tama is better. since I have tried many things, but without necessarily remember the names.
As drummer (very) amateur, I have no definitive opinion on the issue, it suits me to a very occasional use. The sound is not breathtaking, but it's still much better than the batteries first prize. Widely.
I like the stem of toms, very solid and easy to adjust.
If I had to buy another, I think I'll go see a little above (but we still want "a little above", is not it ...?).

I bought this drum kit from the Newcastle Drum Centre, England. I had to get my own kit as I was borrowing a lump of crap percussion plus kit from a friend. I paid £429 and that included all hardware and hi-hats and a 16" crash.

I like the heavy duty hardware and the excellent bass pedal. Easy to make small adjustments to the set up. Looks great in Midnight Blue by the way.

The skins on the toms and the bass drum have way to much resonance. I put a blanket in the bass drum which helped and used cloth to dampen the toms.I would reccommend buying some Remo Heads for them, sounds so much better! The kit came with Sabian Solar Cymbals which sound really terrible.

Very well put together and sturdy. However after 2 days one of the screws on the inside of the floor tom came loose and wa rattling around inside the drum. I screwed it back in and all seems fine. Tama hardware is great, really strong.

Great beginner drum kit at a good price. Shame about the heads and the cymbals, but at least these can be replaced.

Got it for Christmas, not sure about price. I like the size, good sound can be attained, easy to assemble.

The Swingstar set is now even better, with all new specs and Tama’s latest hardware: more adjustable tom holders, more stable and easier-to-tune bass hoops, new spur brackets you can fold with the spur on, the new Power Grid single-chain bass pedal, new Swivel Foot hi-hat stand, a new snare stand that swivels with the same tilting angle, and more. Set includes 16” x 20” bass drum, 9” x 10” tom, 10” x 12” tom, 14” x 14” floor tom, 5-1/2” x 14” steel snare, double tom holder, hi-hat stand, snare stand, straight cymbal stand, and drum pedal. I like the way you can make adjustments easily. Good beginners set

Snare isn't up to par even w/ a new head. The switch on it (to go from snare to tom) has fallen off a couple of times.


Good qualty, ....Not sure about the hardware that comes w/ it because when I got mine it had different hardware.


I'm guessing it was in the neighborhood of $450 to $550 so I would say it is definitely worth it. Good beginner set. Could be improved w/ better snare drum. Well manufactured set of drums.

I tried a few models yamaha, pearl, but my face has budjet, I bought this drumkit time.

Yes and double yes! I have a skin mount of oil remo powerstroke, with encienne skin underneath, I love the sound that I was given!
In my opinion it is better to buy that kind of drumkit opportunities for retyping (skins + added cymbals) rather than buying all prs kits that do not always sound research ... and it is mostly more economic

I use this drumkit for 2 years, and it must be said that pasmal're at all!
The few problem include the skins are too thin with the books or the SwingStar dclencheur the snare that is good that you pass the bulbs.

At the sound, the bass drum is a real killer! For cons, the alto tom (13 ") is vaiment bizarre, it is neither serious nor acute, can be a pro tuning has something might happen, but does not look empty! The tom bass (16 ") is not serious enough, even with a double thickness of skin ..
The case is trs ClaI "rock", serious and wish fat!

Accessories are excellent and sturdy.

For a drumkit less than 1000 including accessories, it's really okay, but too bad the t's have not much dvelopp!!

-For the entry-level team of Remo pinstripe and cymbals not too bad, it can be a pretty good drumkit (Rock only, despite all my efforts to try to make it sound otherwise) for beginners and to be confirmed, but it's not a drumkit that allows you to go away trs (the quality of the accessories is not too bad but in the end it between ad ja even better when seen.) I did some concerts and I even mowing realized after a while NJE could not continue with that, so I opt for a Basix Custom MODEL merger, cheaper, and nothing to do in terms of quality and sound. What I least AIM on the drumkit is essentially the snare, which even by changing the skin to an aquarian white sand, the rest of poor quality and trs DGIG harmonics dsagrables enough. The bass drum does not send really big either, and even with a cover in the sound is pretty flat I think. It is true that a small investment you can make it evolve into a pretty good set, but only to the rock in my opinion (funk, fusion and swing as hard playable, especially considering the proportions of fts.)
-Before you buy 6 years ago I did not know much, but enough for me to work, and I found the sound not too bad compared to my Previous drumkit. (A peavey) , all is learning to connatre well and has the RULES). Now I jou on virtually all brands, and I think it ranges between Worse, the better.
The price-quality ratio is not too bad but not amazing either. This is true only for the entry level, even when it has a little something of her own over century for example, and I think the price has dropped since 6 years (I remember have pay around 700 euros (it is silent even in FF) with origins compltement can explode and a ride and hihat Paiste 502. Right now, the between-end I feel that first comes the good stuff with the Olympic example.
-I think the drumkit is not bad for beginners and start advelloper sound, even if the dimensions can isolate yourself in a game more "rock". It can also be cutomer to become the best stuff but there will always be a boundary between the TAMA TAMA Superstar and SwingStar, and after 6 years of experience they start to become limited so that the drummer is properly dvelloper in the stuff that sounds.

Particularity-I like least: the cymbals and skins which fo it sounds bad to say you should set aside money for cot if you want one that sounds batteire corect in achentant skins and cymbals and more the drumkit (which is why I do not put 10)

With experience, you do again this choice: Yes, but by buying the skins and cymbals in addition to the latest bag to a drumkit of upper range (Tama Superstar) is mivr without the cymbals

Finally a drumkit with a report qualitprix exellent for beginners but predict the cymabales and skins ^ ^
