MOTU introduces three new audio interfaces that can be rack mounted and connected to your Mac or PC via Thunderbolt or USB.
The three MOTU 1248, 8M and 16A Thunderbolt audio interfaces can be connected to an audio network and offer mixing and DSP processing on up to 48 channels with an audio digital resolution up to 24-bit / 192kHz.
The interfaces are Class Compliant and, depending on the model, provide multiple connection types: front instrument inputs and headphone outputs, XLR, TRS, ADAT, optical, RCA S/PDIF, word clock, but no MIDI on any of them. If your computer is not equipped with Thunderbolt ports, you can use the USB 2 (USB 3 compatible) port and an Ethernet port allows for joining an audio network and record/monitor up to 128 inputs and outputs simultaneously via Thunderbolt.
The three interfaces are also compatible with the MOTU AVB interfaces and switches so you can connect up to 5 MOTU interfaces in a large audio network.
Plus, by adding an AirPlay module or any WiFi router via the Ethernet port, you can mix and use DSP effects (reverb, gate, LA-2A compressor model and British EQ models) from your tablet or smartphone via a dedicated app.
Each of the MOTU 1248, 8M and 16A audio interface also features a large backlit 324 x 24 LCD display to monitor the activity and meter all inputs and outputs, and access the interface settings via a built-in menu.
The MOTU 1248 provides 4 XLR mic/preamps with phantom power, 2 front 1/4” Hi-Z inputs, 8 balanced and unbalanced 1/4” TRS line inputs, 12 balanced 1/4” TRS line outputs and two front headphone outputs, along with the digital and word clock I/O aforementioned, which are common to all interfaces. This model supports up to 32 inputs and 34 outputs. The front panel also features rotary encoders for the main volume, headphone volume, guitar input gain and mic preamp gain.
The MOTU 8M comprises 8 XLR / 1/4” TRS combos for mic/line/instrument inputs, 8 balanced 1/4” TRS line outputs and a single front headphone output. It can receive up to 24 inputs and 26 outputs.
Last, the MOTU 16A offers 16 balanced and unbalanced TRS line inputs and 16 balanced TRS outputs.
MOTU did not communicate the availability of these new Thunderbolt interfaces, which price should be around $1500.
