The thing I hate about this is it does work but in my opinion the price of quality and feel loss is too high. I may be a bit prissy when it comes to this so take it with a grain of salt. I know there are people that can not stand noise at any price. If you are old enough to remember it is very similar to the effect the old Dolby noise reducti...
I love the simplicity and the fact that it is totally transparent allowing my tone to flow through but be kept under control. It is obviously top notch construction and built well. No complaints on the sensativity of the threshold once you set it properly to your volume. It just plain works and does the job it says it does. Do I wish it was ...
I love having this on my pedalboard. I'm a guy that typically avoids using nosie reduction these days...if possible. I usually go with minimal effects and wire it guitar>wah>overdrive>phaser>isp>amp. I could toss everything, but not the isp. Too many times it has saved the day. Example,, rig sounds great at home, even at high levels...go to pract...
All in all I think the BOSS NS-2 is a decent noise gate for someone looking for a basic stomp box noise suppressor with a nice fast cutoff and more controls for adjustment. If you just want something to get rid of hum and don't need that fast attack, I would have a look at the ISP Technologies Decimator which does that job well and has served me...
The pedal itself is solid, but there are better things on the market today. I vastly prefer the ISP stuff to the Boss stuff when it comes to noise gates. The Boss technology is just too outdated and doesn't sound as natural as the ISP does for the type of music I play. If you can get one of these cheap, get it. Otherwise, just get an ISP.
Impression in recording the unit would be idealy 100% transparent, but live i CAN tell a difference in the low end of the amplifier. it is extremely transparent and does the job effectively. im sure most people wouldnt mind just turning their low end up. i love the ability to control the unit in all aspects and not just one knob. ...
At new you can find these pedals for right around $115, which isn't bad for this pedal. I would recommend everyone who regularly gigs to have one of these pedals because the noise from room to room will affect you rig each time and it can be needed if you have high gain in your tone.
These pedals were made from 1979 to 1988. So they have been long discontinued for a time now. So the used market is the only way to go now. I would suggest a new edition of a noise gate there are much better ones out there now.
If you nave any noise issues that are not related to grounding problems then you should pick one of these up. It is absolutely essential to my rig at this point. I have never had a noise suppressor that worked as well as this does without sacrificing sustain or tone. They make a higher end model now that has more options but I will stick with wh...
For the money it's definitely a worthy pedal for any board. It does it's job and is very affordable. I've tried a few others and haven't found a real need to switch from my NS-2. I sold my original NS-2 and recently came back to it. It's a great pedal. Built like a tank, like most Boss pedals.
