Live 8: Long Live Ableton

Ableton Live 8: The Test

Ableton's Live has been with us for some time now and since it’s initial release in 2001 it has proudly sported a simple one window interface and transparent ’no frills’ operation. This simplicity initially led some producers and musicians to believe it was perhaps a step down from other more complex DAWs, but seven years down the line Live has more than stood the test of time. The best sequencer!

Installation really do this without any problem! Install on Windows 7 since 2010 and no incompatibility, configuration make it easy, there has to be a support for each option, then I agree that it takes a little know the words, but it's really easy once you put your hands in!
The manual is just perfect, because help is on the software for live use, I do not see how we can do better!

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

So I use two computers, a laptop for my lives in concerts, and a tower to compose these lives, so I'll give the config of both!

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

So I use two computers, a laptop for my lives in concerts, and a tower to compose these lives, so I'll give the config of both!
    Portable Computer: round:
    -Windows 7-Windows 7
    Processor I3-M350 2.27GHz Processor I5-3470 3.60 GHz
-4GB of RAM -8 GB Ram

Here I put the three main things to know, the operating system, processor and ram system, three really important things for using ableton!
So for compositions live with the tower I have no problem, my setup is more than enough, so no freeze or lock processor, then nothing, knowing that I use apc 40 and 49 mpk and a map its outer!
To live in concert I also connects all these components in my pc, the good config are not high enough, so I'm forced to freeze the tracks that I live in does not change, and I can easily go up to 43 % cpu usage which is beginning to be too much for a laptop, so I think change soon, because it's a bit annoying to have to freeze tracks each time, and was always afraid that the cpu overheating and the computer turns off! But are not the fault of the software, you just know that a good pc configuration is recommended!

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 3 years, I try Fruity Loops, Cubase, but not nothing doing there Ableton it is my favorite, with its session-I really like!
There is nothing I hate all is, we need every tool, the integrated live sound effects really perfect, then he must of course add virtual instrument, because they live are not really good, they are interesting, but we quickly made the rounds after this severe must cling if you want to use their instrument without basic preset!
Then the value for money is, yes it is a very expensive software, but I think that there is a lot of work behind, and I understand that high price! I redo exactly the same choice!

Ableton Live 8 SuitePublished on 03/23/13 at 06:01
Sonic Academy's Ableton 8 Suite is compatible with different working platforms like Windows Xp , Vista , 7 and MAC.

The manual that is incorporated with the software is well detailed covering a lot of subjects regarding the working process.

The general setup of the program is quite straight forward , it's easy and fast to manage it.

The typical functions are well placed , you get a decent browser in the left upper corner that can give you some direction.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

The software works very good , the program is stable , everything is well designed.

I'm getting very good results while using Ableton , my composition level improved , my sound design improved , everything is great.

I've been using Ableton Live 8 for about 2 years.

    OVERALL OPINION

What I like most about Ableton is the great interface , the session and arrangement view , the vst compatibility and complex automation lines.
Another thing to mention is the advanced warping and live stretching , the full vst support , the build-in effects and sounds are also top notch.

I also like the Operator that comes with Suite , that powerful synth machine can emulate every known sound to man.

Something that's quite unique in Ableton , is the freeze feature , that way you can create audio from midi data very fast which would help with your cpu resources.

My opinion about the value for the price is good , this DAW is one of the leader in the music industry , you can buy it for 500 $.

Precision and quality of the sound is 10/10 , some producers say that the Ableton's EQ erase some quality from the frequency range , in my experience , that's not the case.

I've tried several DAW , Ableton got a special place in my heart as being the most useful and pleasant one.

Knowing what I know, I would buy Ableton again.

There weren't any kind of compatibility issues , the program works on any platform like Windows XP, Windows Seven or a MAC OS.
The book provided by the program was quite clear and you get a quite detailed and powerful understanding of the program.
General configuration and setup is easy and it doesn't require any additional tasks.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

The software works correctly , fast and pro.
Regarding the functions and the performances , I must mention that all the functions and features are working on a high level , and Ableton's functions are well thought and made by Sonic Academy.

    OVERALL OPINION

What I like most about it beside the pro design and that powerful white design , the instruments provided with the program are great , the sampler , the simpler and of course the Operator , which is a very powerful machine where you can emulate a whole specter of sounds starting from bass to drums.

I also do enjoy the way the program works , in two separate ways , either session view or arrangement view , both of them has their own purpose and use.
Another great thing about Ableton are the multi effects racks , which are very handy and high quality.

My opinion about the value of the price is great , this product included a lot of features and plugins , it has vst support , it's worth the money without a doubt.

Precision and quality of the sound is pretty perfect , the only times where Ableton lacks perfection is when it cracks , which isn't very often but still , beside that , quality and precision is 10/10.

I've tried several Daw's , Ableton has its own ways and features which makes one of the most used Daw's out there.

Knowing what I know , I would get Ableton Suite that comes to the music world with a wide variety of plugins , features and effects.

Ableton Live 8 SuitePublished on 11/13/12 at 23:26
Ableton Live 8.2 is the most recent version of Ableton Live. I have been using Ableton for years and I always upgrade when they come out with a new one. You can purchase this brand new if you are not coming from a previous version for 400 bucks which is a steal for everything you are getting with it. You will have a full production studio and workstation at your finger tips. Ableton live 8.2. is great for live performances too.

Setting it up was very quick on my Windows Vista PC. It only took a few minutes but there are not many changes from the previous version. The drivers are very stable and they always have been with Ableton Live. They update the drivers often and make sure they do what they can to keep this software running perfectly for all users on any computer Mac or PC.

    OVERALL OPINION

The sound you get out of Ableton 8.2 is fully up to you. If you are using it for studio purposes then you will love the sequencer and how easy it is to work with other plug ins and software from other providers via rewire. Abelton 8.2 runs great as a host or in another DAW. There are so many uses for it, and if you are new to using it you will have everything you need to get your ideas out fast.
Most of the plug ins and sounds that come with it are not very good though. You will still need to invest some money into some good quality VST plug ins and some good drum packs. All of the sounds that come with Ableton 8.2 are very basic most like they are in any other programs stock sounds. I am happy that I have upgraded Ableton to 8.2 and will continue to upgrade when they come out with newer versions. This version is not the beta version, it is on the test version either.

    It has some great improvements

Ableton Live 8 SuitePublished on 10/30/12 at 22:33
Ableton Suite 8 is a powerful DAW suite that will take your workflow to the next level. They have made some major upgrades from previous versions of Ableton and they have also upgraded the price! I don’t know why they took the price up so high but it is now 800 dollars for this program. I remember purchasing other version of Ableton in the years past for way less than that.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

I do not own Ableton 8 but I do still get to use it a lot. The interface is great, everything is laid out good and easy to find. There are not a lot of sub menu’s to have to navigate through to find what you are looking for. One thing that I like about Ableton that a lot of other progra…

There are not a lot of sub menu’s to have to navigate through to find what you are looking for. One thing that I like about Ableton that a lot of other programs don’t offer is how easy it is to use your drums or samples. They can be easily loaded up in Ableton 8 and in previous versions of Ableton.

    OVERALL OPINION

Ableton 8 does come with some newer effects than I expected. The Vocoder that comes with it is very good, it is almost as good as going out and purchasing an expensive Vocoder from Evo or Antares.
Ableton 8 can be used on your PC or your Mac computer, it is very versatile. Even if you start a project on a PC you can save the project file and open that same file up on a Mac quickly. You will need to have a newer system though to run Ableton 8. If you are using an XP operating system you could have some issues and it could be really slow when loading plug ins and effects. I would not want to use Ableton 8 on anything under Windows Vista. Also make sure you have at least 2 GB of RAM or it will run really slow no matter what operating system your PC has.

    My hands-down favorite DAW

Ableton Live 8 SuitePublished on 06/22/12 at 09:31

This is hands down the easiest DAW that I have used out of the box. The Ableton Live 8 Suite version is the full experience - 4 discs jam packed with instruments, loops and samples bring to you a choice as to what you want to install and, once you make your selection, is quickly installed by Live 8 itself, further simplifying the process. I am working on a MacBook Pro and the set-up couldn't have been more intuitive. That said, like all other Digital Audio Workstations, Ableton Live 8 has a fairly steep learning curve. I am working on a MacBook Pro and the set-up couldn't have been more intuitive. That said, like all other Digital Audio Workstations, Ableton Live 8 has a fairly steep learning curve. However, once hurdled this software is a piece of cake and provides the user with endless options customizing their digital expression of music. Along the way Live 8 makes it even easier by providing detailed explanations in the bottom left hand of the screen of any button, knob, setting, or library when the mouse is dragged over it.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

Ableton provides the user with endless options for performing live. Personally I trigger clips and samples in the session view using a Novation Launchpad, but always have my sequenced songs ready in the sequencing view in case I make a mistake. Very flexible and capable, Ableton is what you make it in a live performance. The opportunities are available, it is up to the performer to harness them.

    OVERALL OPINION

Overall Ableton Live 8 Suite is the top of the line, all things included package that Ableton offers as a Digital Audio Workstation. Able to handle an enormous library of VSTs and instruments it allows versatility to the producer and DJ both and provides an easy to use environment for those new to the art and those more experienced. Although the live set up requires more fine tuning and exposure to the software it is the DAW that I recommend the most and rate the highest.

Ableton Live Suite is a full featured Digital Audio Workstation featuring Midi Support, VST/AU Plugins, Audio I/O and many more features. I have used many Digital Audio Workstations over the years, and I must say this is the best there is. It can be a little difficult and imposing to learn, but when you understand how to work it, it becomes an endless source of inspiration. You can do anything with Live. It may seem expensive compared to other DAWs, but I would pay any amount no matter how big they slap on it. Also, Live takes a completely unique approach to composition, even allowing it to be "played" like an instrument and performed with live - hence the name, Ableton Live.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

The software is easy as pie to install, open it up, complete the registration and it installs itself. What impressed me most is the fact that this software works perfectly and fast on my 2007 Mac Mini with only 512 mb of RAM. It is the best DAW I have used, and works very well on older systems. I can barely have a text editor and browser open on this computer at the same time without it freezing, but miraculously, Live runs like a charm.

    OVERALL OPINION

Live is simply an amazing addition to the field of electronic music. It is a whole studio in a program. You can DJ, create, arrange, it supports video, play live, whatever you can possibly imagine. It is of the highest quality. It's not the prettiest but it makes up for that with it's incredible functionality. It's kind of difficult to start out with, as there is a bit of a steep learning curve. It is a bit of a departure form most linear DAWs as it allows for non linear composition. In my opinion, Live is the DAW of the future, and everyone aspiring into electronic music should at least give it a try.

The report quality price INTERESTED, me I have taken over, but Live 8 would be enough, I use almost no effects live.
As against this well worth the time, but that is a little expensive that is max for live, with the possibility of cre his own tools and plug-ins that make a real live bomb. yes I remake that choice without problem.

Extremely simple, and rather well documented

    - The manual is clear and sufficient? ...

Almost 500 pages, but not yet read the little I have read looks pretty good.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

    - What is the configuration of your computer? (Motherboard / CPU / Ram / Disk / sound card ..)

Toshiba Laptop with Core 2 Duo 1.66 GHz, 2 GB RAM, 160 GB hard, and EDIROL FA-66

    - The software works he correctly on this configuration?

I jamma exceeds 50% CPU utilization, even with many tracks and a few greedy plugins (like a convolution reverb)

But beware: the following is totally instalee almost 50 GB! (Of which more than half is devoted to batteries and perceived). Fortunately, there is no need to install everything, as some packages are very specialized (DVD drums session devoted to multi-mic is only useful if you really want to play the sound engineers!)

    - What performance? (If quantifiable)

Excelentes. The big highlight of live!

    - This software + hardware configuration is stable?

Rather stable. I experienced a few crashes, but they were all the VST has external and one must take into account that Live 8 has been released.

    OVERALL OPINION

    - How long have you use it?

A few days but I used the v7 for over a year.

    - What is the particular feature you like best and least?

    the most:
    ----------
    * The speed with which we can call once you have the software in hand.

    * The amount of instruments available and their quality (apparently much better than in v7). The Essential Instrument Collection pack, expander general is always nice to have. Operator is much better than its previous version, and new instruments and effects are well made.

If you have little or no quality VST (like Native instruments) is a complete package that enables you to smith with very strong foundations.

    * Absolutely everything can be controlled in real time, so very .... directs live :-)

    the least
    ---------
    * Relatively long to master when you come from a sequencer like cubase or sonar
    * The MIDI editor below the concurrency
    * Some functions, basic in my opinion, missing (not possible to easily implement a group of MIDI tracks and even a song once)

    - Have you tried many other models before acqurir?

    The v7

    - How do you report qualitprix?
It depends. It is quite expensive but it is easy to get a discount consequently. Many sound cards and MIDI interfaces with Ableton Live Lite. But the upgrade is much cheaper than buying. In addition the box is the same (not even need to have live lite installs!. Second, given the number of instruments available, if you were - legally you get the equivalent in this VST you will be much more expensive for equivalent quality.
    - With the exprience, you do again this choice? ...

I thought a lot before investing but I do not regret, so yes 100%.

Note that there is a complete demo version usable without restrictions for 14 days. The ideal to get an idea.

    Great for live use

Ableton Live 8 SuitePublished on 08/03/11 at 11:10
This is one of the easiest programs out of the box I've used. It's about as straightforward of a production software as anyone could ask for. It's compatible with a lot of things and while it might not be the studio giant that Pro Tools or Cubase is, it's really not intended for that. It's really a musician's app. The manual is good but there are tons of tutorials online for every use of ableton.

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

Ableton can do a lot of things. I use it in live situations for triggering loops and minor synth use. I use the novation launchpad along with an axiom keyboard. Basically, I use the sets in ableton as songs and use the launchpad to trigger them. I also have a couple of live synths running which I use the axiom to play.

Performance is bulletproof. Ableton is the most stable program I've ever used. It simply won't crash. And believe me, I've tried. It plays well with everything. Even VST's. I've used it for a few years now. The introduction of the launchpad made things a lot easier for me because I was simply using a mouse before, which takes too long.

    OVERALL OPINION

The forte of this program is that it's lightweight, flexible, fast, and effective. It's not trying to be a fancy recording suite, although if you so desire it can do a surprising amount in that regard. In a live situation it has no equal. For looping and lightweight synth/beats it's really a no brainer. It's probably best meant to be used by bands or musicians who are producers second and stage guys first. While I consider myself both, I like the fact that I can teach someone to use ableton in a few hours, which I've done many times. It's also just a good value in general. I recommend getting the suite. The extras are worth it.

Ableton live, one of the fastest growing Programs for electronic music in our world. And i am not complaining.

I have has no compatibility issues running this on my 32 bit AND 64 bit versions of my ACER laptops, though both are pretty well powerful running dual 2.5ghz processors with 4gb RAM.
Though im sure it doesnt take a lot to run this program, the stronger the better, right?
I still to this date have not once used the manual as i seem to be the more try and test everything for yourself type of person though i have found a ton of insightful videos on youtube for ableton live.

    Simple, Right?
Setup is just like any other DAW really, select your input output source and your off to explore the world of music!

    SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

I find this program works brilliant on the performance side of things, Its fast barely/never crashes and if it does its normal due to a massive amount of powerful 3rd party plugins (izotope, korg synths).
The provided sounds/istruments/synths i rarely use as ableton had headed itself more towards the electro/dubstep style of music and for use in a live situation, though i have added all my vsts in to this to use s solely a DAW just because i love the simplicity and feel/look of it.
I have been using this program solely for my home studio for about 7 months and i plan on continuing this until i find something i like better or until i upgrade my studio.
Also just to let you all know my main style of recording is hardcore/metal/(whatever-word-here)core style genres and ableton allows me to produce some nice sounding tracks.

    OVERALL OPINION

I like how easy MIDI editing and sampling is in ableton, i genreally create songs using guitar pro 5 so i just import the MIDI files in choose a sound and im done.
then if i wish to edit anything its all at a touch of a button!
Also as i got this program for free as a promotion from my local store i have no problems!
I have used many DAWs in my short time as a engineer and i dont know what it is about ableton that i like so much. its easier then small time programs such as adobe audition, logic but not as complex as say pro tools!
