Winter NAMM 2012 News
I'm thoroughly impressed, because this modification has taken a humble $40 Boss pedal and elevated it to the status of a superdirt! Robert Keeley is a genius of modern guitar electronics, and that he could make this pedal sound good is a testament to his skill and ingenuity. A+, Highly recommended.
This is probably my go-to mod if I'm starting with modding a pedal before I try out new ideas. The things he incorporates in this pedal are what I tend to do to my own pedals when I mod them. It's a great starting point, and they sound awesome out of the box. If you're looking for a solid booster pedal, this could very well be what you're loo...
This is my favorite mod for the SD-1, but you MUST be handy with a soldering iron. I would even recommend a drill press for these as it can be a bit tricky drilling exactly where you need to drill for these switches. It's not for the beginner, but if you have some experience modding pedals, you can do this mod. If you're not confident, Monte ...
If you're looking for a solid boost pedal with asymmetrical clipping, I would recommend this pedal. It does a great job, and you can get some aggressive boosting going on without it sounding too thin like certain other pedals do. This version is a bit more versatile and more modern sounding than the Analogman one, but the Monte Allums one has ...
The pedal is similar to Keeley's in some ways, but it's also different. This is a bit more like a boost pedal than a distortion pedal, and I find this to be a bit more useful for guys like me who already have high gain amps. Still, I can't say I'd keep this on my pedalboard because I tend to use as few boost pedals as possible for my amps. If...
The pedal is pretty solid, but it's expensive compared to the dirt cheap DS1s you can find all throughout Craigslist and/or eBay. It's a decent gain pedal, but I still can't truly get used to using the DS1 as a primary gain pedal. I much prefer amp distortion. It's hard to choose between this and the Analogman version as they're both differen...
If you're looking for a warmer sounding overdrive, check these out. They're really cool sounding pedals that are a bit different from the SD1 that everybody seems to run today. It's like BOSS's version of a tubescreamer, I guess. Then again, I guess the SD1, BD2 and countless other pedals they have are the same way...
If you're been a long time hater of distortion pedals in general, you probably won't like this pedal. If you dislike the MT-2, you might not even like this pedal. However, if you thought the MT-2 could be improved and be more musical, this is the pedal you're looking for. It's not the most versatile thing in the world, but it works out pretty...
Overall this pedal is a decent basic overdrive. I prefer it to the famous Ibanez Tubescreamer, but I would probably look at other pedals to fill the same tone requirements as the SD1. I like the Digitech Bad Monkey because it splits the tone into two separate knobs, allowing for more tweaking. The Transparent Overdrive from Danelectro is also...
Overall this pedal would be a good pedal in the 50US dollars market, but for 100US dollars there are better options out there. I prefer it to the similar priced Ibanez Tubescreamer, but once again I feel that pedal is overpriced for what it does. I like the Digitech Bad Monkey because it splits the tone into two separate knobs, allowing for mo...
