Ibanez MS-10

Ibanez MS10 Metal ChargerPublished on 11/12/04 at 15:00
I bought my MS-10 on e-bay for 30 euros

I found its sound quite muddy, not as good as I expected so I looked on internet for some ideas how to make it better... Deffinitely you will obtain a GREAT, BRIGHT and JUICY tube-screamer sound by removing diodes 3 & 4 and replacing diodes 1 & 2 by standard red LEDs. You will love it !!!!

Nothing to say !

... standard IBANEZ serie 10 construction ... quite good ...

Just try to modifie it and let me know ;-)

Ibanez Metal Charger

I aquired the MS10 on an online auction site. I paid $30 for the metal charger.

When I received the MS10 in the mail I was happy. I am always happy to receive pedals in the mail. The metal charger sounded ok when it arrived. It just didn't have the sound I was looking for i.e. Ts-9 ts-808 sound. There is a great mod it make this pedal sound smoother and not so harsh. In the drive circuit if you take out two of the output diodes it cleans the sound up rather nicely. If you search on the web for mods you will find the schematic.

Ibanez makes good quality pedals being made in Japan. The pots are of inferior quality. The foot switch is made of plastic.

The MS10 has the quarter inch jacks mounted on the circuit board. This design flaw make cause failure of the unit if the quarter inch jacks are abused.

After the mod the metal charger screams like a tube screamer. It also has some cool equalization. I give it a 6.

Ibanez MS-10 Metal Charger

Ibanez MS10 Metal ChargerPublished on 03/17/02 at 15:00
I bought this unit with my own hard-earned ca$h.
I got it at a small second hand store in Hailebury, Ontario, Canada, called Bonne Amie. (a cute little place)
I got it cause I wanted a distortion pedal. (duh)
I paid $45 CDN (over time the price had dropped from $80) for the little box of metal and plastic.

I love it's color. A real nice green... you know that's why guitarists buy the pedels they do.... the pretty colors!!! ya, right.
Anyway... it's my FIRST and ONLY pedal so bare with me.
(Just for the record... I use an acoustic with a built-in EQ-7545R pickup.)
I love it's bubbly distortion. It has the regular distortion knob and level knob, as well as 3 (three) knobs for tone. WOW...…

I love it's bubbly distortion. It has the regular distortion knob and level knob, as well as 3 (three) knobs for tone. WOW WHAT A SPECTRUM!!! You can vibrate the floor with the "punch" knob, or call your dog with the frequencies available thanks to the "edge" knob.
Well, maybe I'm exaggerating a bit... but I think you get my drift.
The "hiss" from the pedel is practicly non-existant when you use a battery. (It lasts a good while too, if you unplug it when you're not using it.)

What don't I like about this unit?... hmmmm... hmmmm.... hmmmm.... and hmmmm again.
When I used an adapter with it, it "hissed" alot. ( it was the wrong voltage though :-))
... and... I can't seem to mimic the distortion on my Pevey Rage amp, but hey, nothing's perfect.

Well, like I said I bought it second hand... at least, so the switch needed a good cleaning, and I needed to re-solder the contacts for the input and output (a result of common wear and tear) the main chasis is metal... and the actual push thinger is plastic... but all is good.

Overall, I'd say it's the best pedal I have.
I use it all the time. And best of all... IT'S A PRETTY COLOR!!!!

(This content has been automatically translated from French)
First a short description of the beast:

Distortion: It's pretty clear I think!
Level: Ben is the output level.
Attack: Controls presence.
Edge: the treble control.
Punch: bass controls.

An input / output jack.
Battery or transformer ...

What is a pedal!

UTILIZATION

Setup is simple. Whatever distortion was a lot of knob, and early punch and edge are not obvious: z'auraient able to bass and treble.
The manual is simple, it even gives some examples of settings, but I was not convinced.
Finally, it is easy to use TRS, one branch and it works.

SOUND QUALITY

In terms of effect is a distortion. Made for metal hence the name
The sound is very typical ......…

The sound is very typical ... even too. After a while I even abandoned, because it is not very versatile.
The range of available distos is broad without being! You can have something to Maiden, Judas something to ect ... But for a setting less nag I've always had trouble ....... That said, it can come from me!

OVERALL OPINION

It's the sound of metal 80 years ... I bought it in 1989. It is indestructible, the case at least because it will not turn
Eventually I get tired for the reasons mentioned above.
But it is a great product for those who want to old school metal. Whatever, if she would work again, I let myself be tempted by an afternoon setting ... Just to see, like this ...

Do I do it again-this choice?? ben in 1989 so now I'm not sure to buy something as straight forward ...
