I'm a drummer. I'm originally from Brazil. I play in a band called Glint.

As important as owing your own drum kit is to own a great metronome. I previously owned the DB-88, which I already thought to be an awesome machine. But the new features that comes with DB-90 makes this addition to the line of Boss metronomes even sweater. Coming now with a MIDI input, a Rhythm Coach and an auto power off function that turn the metronome off after 60 minutes of not being used, plus all the 88's old features, like the note mixing and reference tone.

I bought mine for $150 in a drum shop but you can get it for a little less online.

The thing I like the most besides being able to write and save your own patterns and signatures is the tone reference function which is a great ally on drum tuning. Also, this machine is very user friendly.

The DB 90 comes with a LCD display, MIDI, headphones and instrument inputs, 5 octave tonal reference range and it's powered by ac current or dry battery.

This metronome is probably the best one you will find in the market. Filled with very cool features making practicing a lot fun. This is a fantastic tool not only for beginners as for pro drummers.

The Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat is an in depth metronome. I don’t know if this is something that they are still making or not. Even though most people are going to be using a click in the box, it can be beneficial to have something not on your computer, especially if you are using tape at all, which is the setting in which I’ve used the DB-90. For connections it’s got ¼” jacks for ins and outs and an 1/8” headphone jack as well. It also has a MIDI output. There’s a lot that you can do with the Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat that I’ve yet to use it for and don’t think that I ever will have the need to. In the studio where I’ve used this we simply use it as a click when recording to tape. The click sound is alterable but we’ve got it on a nice setting that isn’t too abrasive but still can be heard through a headphone mix. You can tap out the tempo easily as well, which is a huge plus on this. You can even save your sounds and tempos as well as have the ability to loop. There’s probably more that can be done with it, but who really needs to get that in depth? If you do, at least there’s options for you but I think that most of use using the Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat in the modern day will not have a need for anything but the basics. It’s also cool that the DB-90 has it’s own little stand that can sit easily on your desk so you can change click times easily as well as turn the click on and off when needed and tap out tempos to the beat of a song. I don’t really have a clue how much the Boss DB-90 Dr. Beat will run you, but if you need an external metronome from your computer, it’s a fine choice because you’ll have all the basics covered and then some.

I use it for 1 year and a half.

I have tried many metronomes and other pockets for Smartphone and none of them has as much functionality or input-output.

Right price, you pay a little brand Boss / Roland but the same principle as their pedals ... it's good quality.

You can adjust the boost and have any kind of rhythm of basic 4 / 4 in the shuffle and I'm sure he can do biternaire.

Apprentices muzicos can plug a pad and train with a coach mode or use the included micro clapping.
There is a MIDI-In, which controls the DB-90 (Start, Stop, Continue, Timing clock)


I would do this choice because we can and that's what I love most:
1. directly connect a guitar or the bass on it. There is a gain control input for the balance.
2. set a pace or use the programs included
3. practicing with headphones or plug into the Aux-In a hi-fi.

For me it replaces an amplifier by adding a miniature drum machine function.
For more sounds "metronomic" there are drum sounds: bass drum, snare, hi-hat + 2 which change depending on the program (bossa, techno, hard rock, etc. ...).
