Aly James has released his new Elastic Bender EL-2 virtual effect pedal, a VST 32-bit plug-in for Windows.

We talked about the Elastic Bender last Octobre (see this news), the plug-in is now available.

The Elastic Bender EL-2 is a virtual triggered pitch bend envelope pedal inspired by the Zoom Bendchorus effect used by Prince in the 90s and described by Aly James as a dynamic Whammy.

The developer modeled two modulated analog Bucket Brigade Delay chips as well as the input and output of a solid-state overdrive to create the effect. The BBD Mode B (10ms) will generate chorus, flanger, ring modulation, while Mode D (300ms) can create reverb or slapback delay effects or hunt on the vintage pitch shifter territories. The stompbox can also auto-oscillate.

When the Elastic Bender circuit detects audio peaks, it triggers a pitch envelope that will dynamically bend the notes. You can control the enveloppe speed and depth.

The envelope triggering can also be managed via an LFO or MIDI notes, which is useful if you play synced rhythmic sequences.

The Elastic Bender El-2 includes true stereo processing with envelope “pan” capacities and you can mix the dry and wet signal, adjust the envelope triggering sensitivity and even modify the envelope curve by changing the VCA response. Last, the effect can output its envelope as MIDI CCs if you want, for instance, to control a real Whammy 5, modulate hardware or software…

The Elastic Bender is a VST 32-bit plug-in for Windows. It is available as a donationware with minimum price of 15 €. You can listen to demos at alyjameslab.com.
