Who said linux was complicated to install?? Frankly, the installation of Fedora (and all Red Hat) is a cinch. It's very intuitive.
The hardware is supported directly and installation of nvidia drivers is done in 2 commands. To install proprietary codecs is a bit more complicated (and more!) But reading the doc, no worries. The advantage, unlike Windows, is that all codecs are installed at once and all formats can be played with mplayer. No need for quick-time, real-player and others ...

SUITABILITY/PERFORMANCE

As for performance I think Fedora is long to boot, even turning off a lot of services. However, in use is very fast! On the same machine Open Office opens 2 times faster than a newly installed windows. Let alone for gimp ... I have not tested the CCRMA packages for Mao, but if the same quality as the rest, it must give a high-performance distrib mao!
I blame Gnome just not be as responsive as kde, but I chipotte.

OVERALL OPINION

I use linux for many years particularly in the context of my work. I have a strong preference for red-hat system that I find easier to administer than debian (which are excellent this way). Fedora often offers the latest technology available and provides the basis for Red Hat Enterprise. Moreover, a site not to be missed: https://www.fedora-fr.org

Is this choice I would do: definitely yes, and re-yes! Windows has no advantage in my eyes ...
