Biggest Ever Audio Mixing Contest is ON!
In my spare time, I do electronica music. Clear chest pounding bass that doesn't sound muddy or hinder other instruments in the mix can be a huge pain, and it's what I'm constantly battling. This plugin helps me shape those low end instruments quite a bit easier than if I wouldn't have it. I wouldn't use it for much other than electronica, ho...
Trying to make a special master buss finalizer plugin can be quite a big task. While my favorite is still iZotope's Ozone, this plugin doesn't do too bad of a job. I've used this with my power metal band without an issue. It doesn't really work out too nicely for my death metal bands, but that has to do with the way it processes everything; i...
Bass doesn't usually need a ton of attention compared to, say, drums. However, it's very easy for bass to totally destroy a mix if you don't know what you're doing. I find that a heavy hi-pass and lo-pass filter to solidify where the bass will sit tends to work the best. This plugin has helped me in a few ways for rock productions, but I woul...
This is a very good, transparent sounding EQ that is complex enough to work on finalizing the mix but not so ridiculous that it's hard to use. However, I normally find myself just using the standard EQ inside of Logic Pro for the final mixing if I'm going to use an EQ. That, or I'll use the iZotope Ozone 4 parametric EQ since I usually have th...
There are some cool features in this application that can work nicely for certain genres, but I never really found myself using this too much. I have no real reason to start panning certain parts of a drum kit at certain points in a song. If I wanted to add delay to a track, I'd do it via my DAW with my favorite delay application. Basically, ...
This is a great EQ, but I don't find myself using it as much as I do the overall E and G channels. However, the plugin sounds great. The few times I did use it, it sounded awesome. One really cool thing you can do is enable both the G channel and the G EQ. That'll give you some crazy extreme EQing that nobody could imagine back in the day. ...
In one way, this EQ is a bit more versatile simply because it's a 10 band graphic EQ. On the other hand, I find myself using the API 550 series more because they're closer to parametric EQs, and they tend to be better suited for guitars and the such. However, this is still a great EQ, and I recommend you check it out if you ever get the chance...
I tend to go back and forth between this and the API 550A. For one, this is a bit more versatile as it has more bands to adjust. On the other hand, I sometimes find myself thinking that the API 550A is a bit more musical. I'm not sure if that's purely a psychological thing or what, but in the end, they're both killer EQs that can be applied t...
This is one of the more useful EQs that Waves has created, in terms of vintage EQs, at least. I found quite a few usages for this, where as some of the other ones were a bit geared more towards classic rock. Applying these to some slightly overdriven guitars give it a real vintage-esque EQ sound that can make the mix really pop out. Using it ...
This is a pretty cool plugin to use on vocals, guitars and drums. You can get a real unique, vintage sounding EQ going on, complete with all the artifacts that they come with. However, it's not nearly as versatile as today's EQs. Because of that, there's a limited application to this. Some might not find it that usable, and because of the pr...
