Winter NAMM 2012 News
I've been using the Electrix EQ Killer filter for about two years and whenever I have access to it, I always use it. It is extremely expensive now because of how rare and coveted they are, so I would only recommend trying to purchase this to those who are really looking to put together or add to a top flight professional studio. For the rest of ...
I've been using the Orban 672A for about three or four years and it has become one of my favorite pieces of outboard gear in terms of equalization. It has both the ease of use and top notch sound quality that you have come to expect from API gear. These are very rare and will cost a decent amount of money if you can find one, but if you have acc...
I've been using the Aphex Systems 109 Tube Parametric EQ parametric EQ for about a year and it has become one of my favorite outboard EQs. While it is more convenient to EQ inside of the box in Pro Tools, this gives me a cleaner signal in my opinion. The EQF-100 isn't cheap by any means and is aimed toward professional studio and engineers, but ...
While certainly expensive, the Tube Tech ME 1A is a great addition to anyone's professional studio. While I don't put it up there with the essentials, if you're looking for a Pultec style midrange EQ. Even so, I'd rather have a Tube Tech compressor if I was going to have one thing or another. If you are ever in a studio that has one of these ...
I would recommend this EQ as it's the REAL DEAL! Honestly, if you can buy from the inventor of the parametric EQ industry, why wouldn't you? There is no compitition with the GML 8200 this is pretty much the highest quality you will get out of any product in this genre/ field. If you get a chance to get your hands on one of these than I congratul...
Considering what the sonic maximizer really is, I can't give it high ratings for value. It would probably be a better idea to spend your money on a good compressor instead. At least it wouldn't be pretending to be anything it's not. The BBE is advertised as magic. Maybe that's because it magically makes you dissapear from the mix. It may se...
Simply put, the Sontec MEP-250A is a superb, top of the line stereo equalizer. In my opinion it's still not a replacement for a GML 8200 which is the king of precise parametric EQ, but it's still really cool and worth the time to check out. It will also only cost you about half of what the GML will, although it's much more hard to find since i...
This is pricey piece of gear that requires lots of reading and experimenting to really use well. If you like to just plug and play I suggest you find something like a sample and hold pedal to get similar sounds easier. If you are like me and enjoy tweaking and options then this is a great pedal.
If you can find one of these units in working condition, buy it. Beware that they could break, and TC no longer supports them. If you're willing to assume that risk and need the absolute best EQ ever made, check this out. The spectrum analyzer alone is worth the price of admission. I can't believe TC no longer makes something like this.
The Inward Connections DEQ-1 is really the ultimate mastering EQ. It's no longer being made and I don't think too many of them were made to begin with since it's so expensive. You can still probably get your hands on one however if you're really determined and have a ton of money, as you would need even if you were to buy one new. That being ...
