Got this crazy axe from the local music shop for $995 Canadian Dollars. Mine is Cobalt Blue in finish. Go to www.jacksonguitars.com for complete specs.

Super slim neck for all you shredders and players with smaller hands, low profile slick looking pirahnna inlays, pointy inverted headstock, tunomatic bridge, low action, not too heavy, nice natural rockwood maple neck, carved top alder body.

The only thing i don't like, well, actually hate is the EMG-Hz passive pickups with the active 20db gain turbocharger. Absolute garbage, but maybe it's because i'm comparing it with my other guitar with an EMG-85 and 81 pickup combination. If you really care about sound (which you should since it...…

The only thing i don't like, well, actually hate is the EMG-Hz passive pickups with the active 20db gain turbocharger. Absolute garbage, but maybe it's because i'm comparing it with my other guitar with an EMG-85 and 81 pickup combination. If you really care about sound (which you should since it is MUSIC that you're playing) then prepare to upgrade pickups.

It seems pretty solid to me, i've only had it for a month so time will only tell. I'm very pleased with the construction of this axe as it has a style of it's own. Paritcularly the carved top and carved out grooves in the concave of the fin portions of the body, not to mention the back of the axe just underneath the area of the bolts for the neck. Don't worry about room in the back for a battery if you want to go with active pickups, it already has a space for one. Nicely made.

Bottom line is:
If this is your first guitar, it will do you just fine. You will have a nicer guitar than most entry level guitarists. If you're somewhat experienced, than you're probably looking for features other than the price tag. This guitar is very affordable and the best feature and the main reason why i made this purchase is because it has a super slim neck, i don't think it could get any thinner. This axe has great flavour and quality construction wise. Electronics is a different story. Plan on investing on better pickups if you know what you're doing. This review is complety subjective, I play metal so if you do too than i can tell you that the stock pups have no crunch, no bite, no output not to mention noisy. They do the job for rhythm and rock in general. I've read some reviews saying that these pickups are good for playing metallica, megadeth, pantera, etc. Simply not true. I would rate this a 5 based on construction but gave it a 4 since the review is for a stock unit as a whole (what you get outta the box). Hope this review is useful as most others for this make are completely misleading, and even still I had managed to make a fine buy.

I bought it from musician's friend for around 600 dollars.

Easy to play, well balanced, and the 0-20db boost is sweet. I play heavier stuff and I find myself using it all the time.

The pickups aren't that great without the boost. I don't like HZ's.

Very well put together. Doesn't have many flaws.

Great guitar for the price

I prefer this model over some of the other ones (like the DKMGFF) because it has real EMGs installed in it. To me, that makes all the difference in the world. The guitar has the following specs:

Alder body
Flamed maple veneer
Maple bolt-on neck
Scarf joint headstock
Bound rosewood fretboard with 24 jumbo frets
MOTO piranha fretboard inlays
Two EMG humbuckers
Hard tail bridge
Master volume, master tone and three way toggle switch

UTILIZATION

The guitar was put together fairly decent. There were no issues with the nut binding, and that's always a plus for tuning stability. The frets were mostly level, and they were nicely crowned. The edges also weren't too bad on this. The neck...…

UTILIZATION

The guitar was put together fairly decent. There were no issues with the nut binding, and that's always a plus for tuning stability. The frets were mostly level, and they were nicely crowned. The edges also weren't too bad on this. The neck joint had a bit of a gap, but it wasn't a huge deal. The neck itself was pretty nice, but I heard a lot of people dislike Jackson necks. I never found them to be a big deal, but be sure you try one before you decide to buy it. Overall, it was put together fairly decently, although you could tell the hardware and switches/knobs were real cheap.

SOUNDS

The guitar sounded really good thanks to its EMG pickups. The EMG 81 in the bridge gave this guitar a very nice bite that could cut through a very dense mix. It can sometimes get a touch harsh when playing alone, but it's usually not a big deal once you start getting a band in the mix. The harmonics just jump out with this pickup, and it's very direct sounding. The EMG 85 in the neck gave a real fat and smooth neck tone that was just to die for. I really like soloing on the 85 in the neck because it's clear yet super smooth.

OVERALL OPINION

The guitar is good for the money, and you're getting quite a bit of bang for your buck. I recommend trying to buy one of these used if you can. You'll save a good bit of money, and you'll get a very solid guitar. Pay attention to neck joint gaps, nut binding and fretwork issues. Aside from that, it should be nearly perfect.
