The Edirol UA 5 is a very sturdy interface that can handle some punishment. I no longer own this unit but I remember when I was using it I put it through all types of abuse by accident. I had this really small desk that I was using that my laptop could barely fit on, and I had this beside the laptop and it kept getting knocked off the desk and the basement floor was concrete. I though for sure it would end up breaking on me one day but it never did. Once of the drops did pop off the cap of the front output knob. But I was able to get it to go back on. The Edirol UA 5 has several different connects and records up to 24 bits.


UTILIZATION

It was very easy to use, it had a great sound quality and switch able phantom power. This device is very simple but at the same time its very complex with everything that you can do with it. But one key thing for me was that you cant record and then play simultaneously. I didn’t realize that until I read in the manual that you can do that at 96khz.


GETTING STARTED

The font of the device is where everything is, the back of the device has nothing. Your ins are in the front all the knobs and monitor levels are in the front, so this makes for a great device for home because you probably wont every have to turn it around to get a look at the back of it.


OVERALL OPINION

Great interface, but there are some other ones that are very similar and are cheaper. When this first came out I remember I paid almost 300 dollars for it. I wasn’t happy with that price, it didn’t hold up for a long time though and I don’t regret my decision. But there are other interfaces that will cost less and can sound the exact same.

The UA-5 Has my first purchase for my pro card and it needs dpart trs well served its purpose. Its connectivity is trs complte and in fact a small home studio all in one: two XLR in facade allow the use of a microphone (48V phantom power and prampli) and even a guitar thanks to slecteur of impdance. There is another from the rear strro CAR and finally a range of e / s numrique, optical and coaxial.

The design and manufacturing quality are excellent, like the vast majority of products from Edirol.

I used this module with a 1GHz Athlon PC under Win2000 without any problem.

UTILIZATION

Installation is fairly simple.

However, unlike what a USB connection would suggest, it is not advisable to remove and reconnect hot) If the UA-5 n'tait not on the PC before dmarage It is not possible to use it half the time!
Another complaint: even if this card is 24bit/96kHz the gre with certain limitations, we can only play or record this resolution (by turning the knob fate that effect), but not simultanment two ... It has never worked since I drang in 16/48, but probably annoy the most demanding.
Finally, the UA-5 Submitted incompatibility with some of the VIA chipset.

GETTING STARTED

The drivers are well made trs, it comes with ASIO drivers and WDM drivers are efficient trs, which rjouira cakewalk Sonar users. This gives a latency of 8ms painless.

OVERALL OPINION

I do possde over this card, I replaced it with a couple Terratec EWS88 a mixer, my home studio s'angrandissant.

But I t trs satisfied, it is little but she does well. The power supply and prampli Fatme Intgr particulirement are practical for a microphone or a guitar.

The USB format has its advantages and inconvnients ...

I loved particulirement its manufacturing quality and look.

I had bought 370 euros new, which I think is a good quality price.

2 24/96 converters of good quality.
Trs good conection (XLR, jack, RCA, coaxial, optical)
Format external "real" knobs.
The USB can allow mobile use (take care, the UA-5 requires its own power supply!)
Low latency with no problem (except problem with VIA chipset)
Recording a mono track or stro possible.
Attention! No 96kHz in full duplex!

UTILIZATION

The manual is not great but by following the instructions on installing the UA-5 with no problem.
Note: big problem with cracking of VIA KT133 chipset. The only solution is t buy a simple USB port on PCI 30 ... Since I dropped a VIA chipset nForce2, everything works perfectly: this is not the fault of Edirol, although we are careful not to prvenir ...
The setup is simple: SETTING THE frquence of the chantillonage the UA-5 itself, SETTING THE latency through software (see below).

GETTING STARTED

The drivers are stable and the latency is fairly good.

HOWEVER, and this is the I t trsdu:
- Obligation to revive the squenceur or disable playback Czech background to change to Sampling frequency drives.
- No panel CONTRL Asio in Cubase (you have to go in the control of Windows conf ... or be a shortcut well-sr) for rgler latency.
- Still no set day for almost a year (of course the driver is stable but its use is more than pnible).

OVERALL OPINION

Ok, I calm ...

The UA-5 is a trs good product if you are like me have a solution low latency audio inputs + 2 24 / "pseudo" 96 + Connection complte for a low price.

Warning your PC config: no IRQ sharing between graphics card and USB if it is the horror (Avoid VIA) made trs attention if you want to use the UA-5 with a laptop ...

In short, the UA-5 is the product Edirol archtype: trs a good value but an ergonomic qualitprix really rotten in comparison with most other brands.
As we do not change frequency drives, or SETTING THE latency every 30 seconds, I'm not too pnaliser overall rating:
