First of all I prcise that I had this card in hand 48 hours to test it (a kind prt of my dealer before purchase, there is not lost that said, see below).
This notice can not be fragmented as trs. The ratings will not be too significant.

- What technical specifications motivated your choice?
This card should be our answer is strictly my current needs for a price REALLY INTERESTED. Between combos, 4 outputs (with Jack and RCA), mobility thanks to the USB port and possibility of "stand alone".

- For what purpose?
Dpart to the ide is to replace my dj ISIS to install XP without losing too much in terms of routing, but winning in sound quality (I redid the test with a few last night and Isis the routing is not as bad as you want to be said). Use for prototyping prvue, only downside -> only between 2 instead of 8 for the ISIS (which is why AC should not be any fawn DEFINITIONS my choice).

- What is your config (motherboard / CPU / Ram / Hard ,...)?
Voil vritablement the important point because I think I can strongly deprecated this card M-AUDIO possdant people the same material as me because of all obviousness there are many problem of compatbilit between this and the ASUS motherboards (as I had read in the forum), c'tait what I wanted to try and force and find that it is rat!

I tried it on two machine template quite similar:
1) P4B266 (ASUS) with a 2G P4A Northwood, 512 MB Ram (normal since j'tait of 98 SE), graphics card Leadtek Winfast A280 LE -> This configuration has a 266 MHz bus speed

2) P4P800S-X (ASUS) with P4C (Northwood), 2.6G, FSB800 to clock the bus 400 MHz (512 to 400 ram). CG Leadtek Winfast A6600 TD.
Graphics cards caused me a lot of concern in the past but I do not think that's the problem. So if you take your prcautions the hardware before buying the M-Audio you may have problem, or change the configuration because I'm sure the card is worth it when she walks.

I put it to work on THE FIRST brive machine, not the second.
- Which instruments or Systmes (console, prampli, DTD ...) you use it and how connections? ...
Could not really test it (I forget how vrifier sand alone, but ca ca priori no reason to shit), I tested a PC-300 midi keyboard with DIN plugs successfully, its obvious problem of latency.

Overall for what I've heard the product look bad, but not for the lightweight multitrack (both in registration because of its two input and output or USB port shows its limits)

UTILIZATION

The key is the problem, if it should install without problem I'm sure it happens in two minutes the install program is clear and simple. on the other hand, if there is a concern for software compatibility matrielou ca is not the same thing:
To start you must know that this card only works with XP + Service Pack 2. That's good that's what I've just installed on both machines (so any clean installation).

It starts dja wrong: I run the cd with the original drivers and it tells me unable to install on this OS version? surprise since it's the right way be ... I download any drivers made day (one only available version), ca agrees to start but once the installation is finished the card with an exclamation point.

So I just tried everything (in each install cleaner Previous), turn the card before and After you install the drivers, install the drivers from the cd on top of the drivers t lchargs (that's how I run on russian THE FIRST machine). Dja there was a sound card in both machines because I wanted to test the capacity of the M-Audio work with another card (AC has also run well on THE FIRST machine) before the problem occurred then I uninstall the cards to be on and nothing changed (I'm such procdure rod so I do not think it comes from my fa we do), especially since the machine with the ISIS expr XP was installed for this test and I did not install the drivers for the guillemot (disables IMMEDIATE ) or it is on this machine does it totally impossible to run the card.

In short, as often, I Mrs. Russ qd get away after a while of tinkering with drivers but I deprecated this card anyone not used to this such manipualtion if there is a risk of incompatibility with its hardware.

Huh? Manual o ca? No paper manual but rather a nice bundle that compensates, especially since I do not make great use of a manual Retailer for such cards so for me this is not a concern.
HOWEVER! A message is pretty scary in the little quick installation guide: it explains why some matrial constituting the map are known as cacrignes and can cause birth defects in the State of California (if I remember correctly)! It is advisable to wash hands after handling APRS gear. I do not know if it's just a message prcaution the manufacturer to cover or if it is other hardware of this type but in any case has even a little cool when the user on opening the book!

Whereas my own off the machines, because many people can install it without encountering any problem, the fact that this card is limited to service pack 2 for XP does not seem to me a good trs: Will it gre vista or Systmes future? What about Linux and other OS types and of course no support Win 98SE for dinosaurs like me. In short, a policy that was ultimately not envy that of Hercules with the ISIS ... especially with the USB ca no justification (l o some problem arise FW), so I lower the note significantly.

T the time they have in place properly it did not seem too unstable ca but we can only judge on the length.

Bah ... a single PC, only for XP as there is none for another OS That sounds a little lightweight.

- What software do you use most often?
Sound Forge, Cubase SX-1, Various VST instruments, wavelab just a few quick test also with winamp multimedia and some games.
O On the machine the card could be installed while it is little prs well.

- What you get lag?
Satisfactorily with the latency test B4 -> but for one VSTI more likely to be ca gter, I think it should not be too much to ask in this area.

- How many tracks you get record / playback simultanment? ...
That's the bottom hurts again:
I test a squence dja recorded with my ISIS: a total equivalent 14-16 audio channels (8 mono tracks + Stereo tracks 6-7) 14 16 ca happening but it goes more ... addition to cracking and then crash Cubase.
This is probably the limtation imposed by the USB, but it can also come from the fact that the map should not be installed under the right conditions, can not really know if it's just the card or the gear and conflict likely. But personally I'd bet it to too large multitrack projects with lots of VSTi.

Test 48 hours, so with more time I think I probably russian make it work better on my 2 machines since it was able to walk a while
Note: if it does not walk again on THE FIRST machine when I wanted to test it again before the Failed with my "larger" configuration, it is because I had the b tise of dsintaller! Not because the drivers have done for a spin, I held the prciser.

- What is the particular feature you like best and least?
PLUS: The rgonomie wiring is good and the overall design of the Casing is rather well done. Submitted compact and functional enough to satisfy a number of needs. Good finish overall, especially the pots (too bad weakness in MODELS Echo). The sound is not bad for the little that I could judge, any comparison CATEGORY careful recess.

LESS: only 2 inputs, compatibility problems limiting DBiT because of the USB ... and uh ... the message that the card can run you cancer!

Forcment not tested thoroughly but in the studios, unwanted rgulirement (Cole and RSS) Digi001 (with mac and protools), Motu 896 (Mac and PC), Fireface 800.

In my possession for a long time: Maxi Sound 64 Home Studio Pro (a relic of port ISA, terrible for a dinosaur era ... I tell you!), ISIS and ending for ... RME Multiface II since it is ultimately the card I selected -> the test of M-Audio c'tait just to be sure it's well worth the extra price to be trs really cushy, I told you that the store gave it to me prt has not lost in history

Bein, I did not do so they are not really ... but I think this card may be great full of people.

I was looking for a rather simple card with at least four inputs and the 5.1 output.
On the advice of Home-studio I opt for the latter

UTILIZATION

The installation is Droulez seemingly without problem!
There is an incompatibility with the chipset sounds Intgr: in this case the card works but can not accder the config panel of the card (very embarrassing for rgler latency)
Solution: disable the sound card intgre in the bios and windows

THE BIG problem is that M AUDIO RELEASE DOES NOT SEEM TO UPDATE A DRIVER IN VISTA, and it becomes very painful! It is now over a month that the bone came out and even a version that Beta would be welcome!

BAD NOTE for M AUDIO!

Config: Toshiba Satellite M70 laptop (Pentium M 740, 1GB RAM, 80GB HD). I was looking for an interface to convert my laptop into a mini-home studio. Namely, input jack with integrated preamp for connecting electric guitar (Epiphone), xlr static mic (Rode NT3), MIDI keyboard (Roland), headphone jack with volume knob and an outlet for connecting it to my stereo -fi.

UTILIZATION

No problemo. The Device is recognized immediately. No need to disable the integrated sound card. I just plug the ftp to use and to return to disconnect the sound card by default. The manual is fairly brief but the card is easy to use.

GETTING STARTED

No problemo bis. Some people have a driver problem that is easily solved (see the forum). The driver is stable even if the updates are rare. The control panel is very simple (we choose the I / O for bandwidth and latency). I lump under cubase. I must choose the ASIO driver M-audio latency and paid directly on the control panel. At 512, I have a near-zero latency (inaudible), even with big synths like FM8. For tracks, I record the instruments usually one by one (or guitar + voice) is no pbm. In reading, my components are not very large, five EPs six tracks, so it passes nickel.

OVERALL OPINION

I bought my laptop last November and the m-audio fast track pro in January (229 euros). Connected to my guitar and my keyboards, I use it to dial but also to play the synth live in a group of pop-rock. I also use it just to amplify my guitar. So, I quickly pay for my purchase by selling my marshall amp and my BOSS. GT Player software bundled with the card is a good virtual effects rack for guitar. Gone are the stuff that weighs three tons!

I have long thought before buying this card and I am fully satisfied. It perfectly meets my needs for a good value for money. The preamps are not great but terrible with my microphone, it's enough, I do not need to force the gain. The switch in knob / playback is practical. I can mix for example sound of my synth sounds with virtual. I will only complaints: the case is ugly (but hey, it's subjective) and the pots are too small and tight to live. Otherwise, all is well.

I have this card for 15 days. J'apprcie its simplicity of use and audio quality is everything for this game Honourable price (- 230). I regret the mixing between Systm / exit is via a potentiometer style pan: one turns left and between the means, turn right and intends to exit. In the middle we have the two at the same time ... but hey, you get used to use quite well.
I recommend this card, although for reasons of prfrable fast and low latency to work extra firewire. M AUDIO FDP but do not have a Firewire output. DAMAGE!

I possde Fast Track Pro for about two years and it worked well plutt until I add a Powercore firewire and my Systm crashes began: suddenly, and the map freezes cubase "rule", reset the required Systm ... Despite all my trials and advice diligent technical support M-Audio, I did not russi locate the origin of the problem: USB bus? firewire? I have supper failure on my Fast Track Pro, because it causes dfaillances USB on another computer ... She then grow old plutt wrong (especially since the power button is showing signs of weakness).
I wait in vain for new drivers in hopes to correct this incompatibility, but as a signal by another contributor, the drivers do not seem to put days (Can be think they have reached perfection?)

So, I rutilise my good "old" Delta 44 PCI of the same manufacturer which is certainly not the same prampli or latencies, but possde 4 inputs and 4 outputs that can be used in 96 kHz ... and is especially much more stable (even if the era, it took a lot of adjustments for the use of good fawn).

The main quality of this card is to be compact "portable" and easy to use (no power supply from pramp ...) the default is the lack of stability in my config and weak pramps (turn the potentiomtre 75% to start a microphone and hear even more for a SM57 -> little room)

APRS I have installed and I plug my SM58 jou something. Great dception! The pre-amp is trs, trs low-level gain.
The first take with the misplaced mic I recorded almost nothing and yet gain the maximum silent. The deuxime take with ideal conditions I arrived to record something, but I'm still trsdu.
May be you have to buy a real pr-amp to make a proper use of this card.
Any fawn I think I'd be better with AudioFire4 I almost bought instead of FTP.

The trs pramplis are honorably given the price.

The report qualitprix trs is good in any case now that the price has dropped because I did pay more expensive :-(. But I regret not seen it ... I use bcp

I used 4 months and I sold. While the sound is correct, the race of the gain is at least strange. I plugged the card number and it's always the same micro. For three quarters of the race, there is almost no gain then the last quarter, is saturated very quickly. The degree of finesse is binary. Sound / No sound.

No flexibility in short. I could keep it but I bear, I'm used to more accurately manage the gain.

In short, for a few euros more, I would not hesitate a native instruments audiokontrol 1
For a few dollars less, I would take a presonus AudioBox

And with experience I will not repeat that choice.

I chose this card because it is compatible with all configurations.
