iZotope and BT have partnered again to create BreakTweaker, a virtual drum machine with deep editing capacities that will be unveiled today at NAMM.
BreakTweaker is not just a simple virtual drum machine, but you can see it as a full rhythmic and melodic sculpting environment that includes a sequencer and the much-appreciated iZotope synth and sound tools. BT also provides a drum sample library.
With BreakTweaker, you can create complex polyrhythmic beats and control their tempo, pitch and texture. The plug-in can also be controlled via MIDI. To design your beats, three modules are available :
the Sequencer is based on 24 patterns max and offers 6 tracks for sound stacking. The isorhythmic sequencer feature allows for generating evolutive rhythms and you can trigger patterns via MIDI on the fly.
The Generator module is a synth designed for creating new drum sound that you can then use in the sequencer. You can morph wavetable synthesis, use one-shot samples and noise tables, and send them to distortions and vintage filter models. 4 LFOs and 4 envelopes are also included. Note that the sequencer can support up to 4 Generators for enhanced creation possibilities.
Last, the MicroEdit Engine module will refine your sounds and patterns by using a slicing technique. You can then use these slices to create new rhythmic, pitch or harmonic effects, and generate new textures.
BreakTweaker ships with an 80 preset and 2GB sample library.
The plug-in is available in 32 and 64-bit VST2.4, VST3, AU, RTAS and AAX formats for Mac OS X and Windows. The Standard Edition can be purchased now for the introductory price of $199 instead of $249 and an Expanded version, featuring three extension packs (Vintage Machines, Cinematic Textures and Kicks & Snares by Beatport Sounds) retails for $249 instead of $299. BreakTweaker is also included in the Creative Bundle ($599).
