I owned an MM8 by Yamaha years ago, it is very affordable but not well made. Since I was use to working with “higher end” workstations that cost triple what the MM8 does I was able to feel a difference in the quality right way. The keys did not feel very good and the whole board was very light and felt like plastic. Using it was about as easy as it gets though because it took no effort at all to learn the flow of the workstation.

UTILIZATION

It does come with a manual but I didn’t even need it. I used this workstation for around 6 months back in 2008 into 2009. It was a great board to have for many different styles of music and with it being at this price I just knew that I couldn’t of went wrong. I was just expecting a little better quality in its build from Yamaha.

SOUNDS

The sounds really surprised me though, from the strings to the brass and pianos. Almost all of the sounds are very usable and have a warm the brightness to them. I now recommend this board to a lot of users who want to have some good sounds but do not have the money to go get the Motif from Yamaha. This is the way to go because no matter if you are making rock, jazz, or dance music. You will have all of the sounds you need to work with.

OVERALL OPINION

Overall this is a great purchase but if you are more into the feel of the keys then you will not enjoy this keyboard. Even if you are a gigging keyboard player you may not want to go with this board, it is very light but the feel of it could really throw you off. Also the screen is not very big and it is not vibrant, it is more of just a simple backlit screen. But if quality and the “feel of the keys” don’t mean much to you than this is a great buy at this price.

OVERALL OPINION

I got ready in, I have the xs 8 and we feel they are cousin!
Frankly very affordable price and good quality overall, though not on the pro level,
but today finding a 88-key keyboard with blood pattern for even 800 euros new, unless to ask Santa Claus!

This keyboard has some great sounds that it offers. Easy to connect to any software program thru midi connections. The price makes this board a must try, because its hard to get quality sounds for this price.

UTILIZATION

Editing was a hassle with this board, very difficult on this little screen that is very childish. Its easy to turn on and start playing with sounds, but as far a composing a hit on this board isn't going to happen.

SOUNDS

Sounds are good and realistic, but this board is a watered down version of the other more expensive Motif's. I suggest saving the money to get xs models.

OVERALL OPINION

The board has ok sounds, just not as many as I would like to have. Board feels like plastic and very cheap. But you get what you pay for, if you can save the money for the XS boards , do so. This will be fun for you to play with for a few weeks. But it will leave you wanting the XS Motif model. This board felt more like a toy keyboard to me.

OVERALL OPINION

I find this keyboard really very good for this price (600 euro)
Should not compare to XS.
Find a mieu that price!
Compete as it is a good deal.

Small flat, the finish is average but still has that price you have a 88-key Hammer with very good sound coupled with a good style sequencer Cubase (sold) or Logic + a good pair of speaker (Yamaha HS80M) and that a soundcard Edirol (Ex 25) and you with a very nice little home studio for 1000 euros that ask for more!!

SOUNDS

I mostly use the sounds of drums and organ, but the sounds are pretty good overall!
Some out of space and some very realistic!

The value for money is certainly the best works for me!
Find a 88-key hammer action that has as much possibility!


OVERALL OPINION

2 years, and I would do without hesitation that choice
