Used it with vinyl and CDJ platters

Pioneer DJM-700Published on 03/25/13 at 18:14
The DJM 700 K from Pioneer has effects built right into it like the phaser, flanger or crush effects and there are also 4 different patterns for sampling like the pitch up, pitch down, reverse and roll. I was very happy to use these effects because I was going to be upset with the price of this unit until I had the chance to use it live and work with the effects. I was even able to assign some of the buttons to my effects in my computer to trigger them live.

UTILIZATION

Setting up this mixer is simple, but if you plan on getting into MIDI and using it with a software program then you might want to make sure you read up on it first because some of the software applications with work with it better than others. But if you want to just use it as a controller then you should be fine in almost any DJ software. If you are a performing DJ I think this is a good mixer to have because of its live functions like effects and quality. If you are not really a live performer than you can get something so much better for a lot cheaper!

SOUNDS

I have used this mixer with my old vinyl turntables and then a few days later turned right around and used my CDJ turntables with it and it worked great with both set up. It can handle anything and at this price it should be able to. Pioneer always has well made products and I have been using them for 10 to 15 years and they have never steered me wrong.

OVERALL OPINION

The DJM 700 is a little heavier than I expected at right around 15 pounds but it is not very big. Also it doesn’t come with a case so you will need a good gig case or “hard case” for it.

Pioneer DJM-700

Pioneer DJM-700Published on 06/04/09 at 15:00
I do some part-time DJing for a couple local clubs. I do play some guitar but still have a long way to go in that area. I have fun with mixing, though, and can get creative with it.

I purchased the black model for this mixer so it would go with the rest of my equipment. Classic look, no surprises there.

Since DJing is not my career but just a part-time gig on weekends, I really don't have the inclination or cash to buy the most expensive equipment out there. When I purchase new equipment, I go for the mid-range price but I still want good quality equipment. I achieved better results than I would have thought when I bought my Pioneer DJM – 700 last year. It really has top of the line features for it's under $1000 price tag and that was unexpected.

I had tested both the DJM – 800 and the DJM – 1000 models before deciding that these were just a little too expensive for me at the time. When I tested the 700, I was pleasantly surprised to found the sound quality to be every bit as good as the higher priced models. It has the same 32-bit digital signal processing and 96kHz/24-bit sound at several hundred dollars cheaper.

This mixer also has a heavy duty roundup of top notch effects including 13 beat effects, a fantastic roll sampler and has 49 separate controls with its MIDI function. The effects frequency filter with high or low pass filter options is an excellent addition to the Pioneer line and has a really short learning curve because it's so easy to use.

The only thing I would wish for (but can live without at this price) is better harmonic mixing abilities but other than that, it has surpassed my expectations.

The unit is sturdily made and will last a long time if properly cared for. No complaints there whatsoever.

All in all, I would heartily recommend this mixer to anyone except maybe the big names in the business. It does everything I need and then some and I paid less than a grand for it.

For specifications, see the table info.

UTILIZATION

This is a 4-track with a box-board effect everything from classic.

The handling is very simple, easy access functions, except some of the effect box that requires reading the manual.

Apart from the headphone jack located on the left (I do not like it too much but it's a matter of taste), this console is pretty well thought out.

SOUNDS

The console does not introduce breath.

The equalizer is effective and fairly well calibrated, no disproportion between the gain of the tracks.

Is transparent? Hence the opinion diverged, months I think it makes it a little too much treble, not break your ears, but it is below the Allen...…

Is transparent? Hence the opinion diverged, months I think it makes it a little too much treble, not break your ears, but it is below the Allen & Heath particularly dynamic.

Else, the headphones, the sound is a little "cavernous" as say the old, even with
several headphones, which is a bit confusing.

OVERALL OPINION

I recently. This is not my main mixer is an Allen & Heath Xone 62 former design. The Pioneer I bought used 'just because, when you start playing club unfortunately found it most of the time, so this is a second console to get my bearings. I was able to test the Pioneer with a competitor of choice.

Yes I was trying a few: TSB, Gemini, Vestax, Freevox, A & H, Ecler ....

Overall the table is ergonomic, not bad ...

As I said above, it was not breathing, the sound is OK but could be improved.

For cons, the black point of this table is that finish. The screen is clean but feels a little made in china (although manufactured in Malaysia). Moreover apart from the buttons equalizers track that are very well; any other console buttons are poor plastic bottom lines was similar in Beringher and much cheaper. So yes I see here that the Pioneer Pro will say "Yes, but who cares finish is secondary as long as the general operation is good" is not wrong. Nevertheless, when we see how this new console was sold well I think it is outrageous limit.

Despite all that, I bought used to 500 € and in very good condition. So yes I will ever be the choice simply because it is not my main mix and I use this DJM700 from time to time (and my budget allows me to have two consoles, because we are all dependent our budget). Warning I'm not saying that this console is bad, it is not bad, but the value for money is not good (with a new price not at all justified, but it is valid for mixers Pioneer). So as a main mixer, there are better and no more expensive consoles ...

Note, negative points

I think it is missing the digital inputs, just to really 100% digital ...
Can be for the good, the phono inputs should have been positioned differently, but there are already three is not bad.

UTILIZATION

The interface is excellent, nothing to say at Pioneer is well studied and it works.

SOUNDS

Bark .... it's cold. The filter is horrible ... really insist, more zero filter can not!
It is for this reason that I sold it, and I went to the Xone 42.

The effects pioneer ... as usual, not change what we do not mark ... apart from the echo and reverb else is useless, and of poor quality. Recognizes that a flanger for miles!

The equalizer is really bad, not even - infinity. Are...…

The equalizer is really bad, not even - infinity. Are cut 3EQ -> the sound always comes ... will explain why. I still prefer the DJM400 for EQ.
When the sound goes through the equalizer is not to die for one more time.

OVERALL OPINION

I kept one month. The DJM 400 I had had at least 2 / 3 years. This time I am very disappointed by Pioneer, which made very good CD players, but bad mixer (except for ergonomics -> it's convenient and that's good)

It's still a nice table, but for the price it is not worth it. I can not wait to try DJM 900/2000 to see if I have the same opinion.
