The Korg R3 is a small and portable synthesizer that has a built in vocoder in it. It has a microphone input a front panel XLR input and a ¼ phone jack. There are also outputs for MIDI in out and thru, plus MONO right and left outputs and ¼ headphone outputs. There is also a place to put your foot switch or pedal. The Korg R3 runs by a CD adapter and only weighs 6 pounds. It is well built and very portable. For this keyboard to be so small, the keys feel very good and have nice response to them.

UTILIZATION

There are 2 oscillators plus a noise generator on the Korg R3. The first oscillator has 8 types of waves including pulse, triangle, sine, formant, noise, and a few others. The second oscillator has 4 types , saw tooth, square, sine and triangle.

SOUNDS

At first I could not decide which was better, the Access Virus Ti or the Korg R3. Too this day I still will say that the Access Virus Ti is better because I like the sounds more, but the Korg R3 is way more portable and has better feeling keys. It is also more user friendly than the Access Virus Ti.

OVERALL OPINION

I have been using the Korg R3 for 2 years and still use it a lot now. I do take this with me to other studios when we go there to record. I don’t even have a case for it I just put it in a extra bag that I have and it still has never broke or been damaged in any way. It is built like a tank and will last you a long time, not to mention give you some really great sounds to use in your music. Mess with the knobs and let the fun begin!

Well-known features, unnecessary to repeat them. We bitterly regret the keyboard and the plastic coating not sexy which gives it a bit like a game playschool (exaggerating a bit eh).

UTILIZATION

Very easy to use and well thought out. You navigate easily to a sound bank to another, from one setting to another, etc.. I started with this synthesizer here and it's very good to begin with.
The program pc / mac comes with is also very convenient, I am using him more than to program. Its interface is very clear and everything you could need, including the arpeggiator, effects, and the sequencer.
On the arpeggiator, I only regret that we have no more than 8 notes. But it's still usable of course, I do a bit of fuss there ...

SOUNDS

The R3 may be a bit of everything. As has been said, it is able to do bass and leads pêchus well. The keypads can also be very nice. I find however less efficient for tablecloths.
This synth is suitable for a lot of types of music, personally I am in the electro / new wave with a touch of industrial.
Some effects are good bills.
The factory sounds frankly do not shine on the other hand, they do not really pack me anyway even if not everything is disposable. And then you can always serve as the basis for another sound.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 3 years / 3 and a half years.
I had tried before any synthesizer, it was my first, its price / quality ratio had attracted me.
With experience, I would opt instead for a MS2000, classier-sounding but relatively equivalent.
Note that I had a problem after two years: one audio output not working ...

- The configuration gnrale Is it easy?

yes no sorcerer, a few buttons and menus in heureuseent no, menu and jsute a level ... you just turn a few buttons

- The edition of sounds and effects is it easy?

yes ... in addition to the editor in USB PC / MAC it becomes child's play

- The manual is clear and sufficient? ...
very clear is modern enough ... especially since Korg n'tait not very pedagogue ...

SOUNDS

- The sounds they agree your style of music?
sounds are more oriented to the House / electro / breakbeat / hiphop / techno

- Are they ralistes?

enterme synthetic analogue sound is pretty well ... especially for that price and the bidouilant, LFOs, filters and EG (envelope Geenerator) + FX grow good sound.
the vocoder is very nice .. there are many more inputs and micro plant is good, plus it can be replaced by another microphone XLR

sounds clavinets will do in Live .. (especially the wah clav) ... there is a sound and rhodes wurly that can be used as live accompaniment to other instruments coat but only a little light they restennt ....

- The expression is good? (Raction VLOC the aftertouch)?

expression and the right and the buttons are large (more than a USB controller ).... there is no aftertouch unfortunately ..

What are the sounds you prfrez, you dtest? ...

I love the lead, the vocoder, the bass (which, together and say, can give good leads, strings and brass the Oberheim analog / prophet / Juno. Presets surprised me too Half of them are used in modern live and studio more than the original assign Knobs are very inspiring (although after we can change the function of the Knob) ... there are presets pads or arpeggiator styles too got my esotriques but even these are used in the editing a bit ...
I think that style at low there could be more variation on ... well I also have a north lead3 and may be I am too well accustomed in his right .. c is more than well

OVERALL OPINION

- What is the particular feature you like best and least?

the most: the analog sound that price the the shipping pretty easy, the number of patches to virtual router filters, LFO, OSC, filters etc. .., its weight and dimensions, the vocoder, the editor PC / mac edit that allows the sounds from a PC vic via USB, the new driver MIDI / USB to connect the R3 udb with the computer (Windows or OSX) and convert MIDI keyboard (I connect to the studio on the PC and live on an Apple Macbook pro), the arpeggiator fairly complete, the internal structure of sounds, large keys,

Cons: no aftertouch (not too serious) look somewhat good marchbr /> buttons (which are still meileurs those of MIDI controllers) that can be justified as the price low, there is no memory USER, in all there are 128 presets that we must re-write to save new parameters .. but now that I think may be there are ways to save sound editors in the PC / MAC to load ultrieurement.

- With the exprience, you do again this choice? ...
it is clear .. like I said I also have a Nord Lead 3 and level synthesis and programming is a big lab with the seriousness of ingnieurs in white coats, but the Korg R3 is quite fun and insprirant and is accsibles to beginners but also those who will be happy tweaking sounds like studios and traffickers in real time LIVE ..

Very easy to use, clear and precise manual.

SOUNDS

The sound is warm, realistic for the ambient / electro (in my opinion anyway)
The use of the vocoder is very playful with a result of the most serious.

OVERALL OPINION

1 month of use.
what I like least is the slightly cheap rotary controls (anodized aluminum that would be much more class and less toy).
Money nickel, I appreciated moderately against by the price cut a week after my purchase ...
I love the feel of the keyboard, design, buttons, lights, LED pots.
The trick as nickel, is that there is no need for a PC to edit!
