The MKS 70 is a 2U rack synth equivalent to JX10P, released in 1986.
The internal bank contains 100 patches and 64 tones, a patch consisting of two tones.
There are six votes per module, each voice has 2 DCO, 1VCF, 1VCA, 2 envelope generators.
There is a chorus effect and a "chase" very nice.
Unlike JX10P, this rack can be entirely controlled by Sysex. My firmware is version 1.03, with a lot of bugs for some functions. Roland sends the Eproms free updates to version 1.08, the MKS 70 is then completely editable with the publishers PC. Frankly, they ensure Roland maintenance ^ ^
There are three stereo outputs, one for each tone and output mix.

UTILIZATION

The edition is a front synécure, except for the assignment of basic functions and the selection of patches, a better editor PG800 PC or controller.
The manual is very useful to understand the machine. I put 10 if using a PC editor with the updated firmware.

For users of Cubase / Nuendo, there is a great map made device to control all parameters in real time, as a vst (like having two emulated PG-800):

SOUNDS

The sheets are beautiful, very warm, esoteric (thanks to Roland chorus of the time it must be said that sounds serious). The sound thick and a life of its own. The range of sounds is large enough, we can get a fat sound, bass (not very punchy anyway), leads also sounds sharp and typed FM, quite punchy.
Obviously it is not in the factory presets, it takes quite hack or it can sound just as pourrave.
It's great to make music with the image or placed in a modern electro production.

OVERALL OPINION

I bought € 550 in a near nine. I have always worked with me without complaining plugins but there ... 10 times I prefer to put money into a machine with character in an emulation, it does sound really different. This machine makes sounds great live and thrive in the mix.
