MXR M182 El Grande Bass Fuzz

Very robust case.
Volume control, tone, fuzz and a boost switch gravesappelé of "Deep".
The latter has a selectable frequency between 85 and 110Hz, thanks to a small switch inside the box.

SOUND QUALITY

This is generally a good Fuzz with character and especially a broad sound palette.
When you do not push the Fuzz, the sound is very warm.

I do not push against by the latter setting, where I find the sound too synthetic and compressed removing a lot of definition.

OVERALL OPINION

I'm quite a fan of this Fuzz brings me what I was looking for sounds slightly filthy stoner.
Its a very warm and good sound palette with Tone and Boost.

UTILIZATION

General configuration child with a volume control, adjustable fuzz, and a general tone.
It also has a bass boost activated in mod with a front push and adjustable via a switch and a trimpot inside the pedal (from - to + 15db 87Hz or 113Hz on).

The manual is only there to give the product specifications for the rest, we find her without her PhD ...

We would still have preferred an external adjustment of the mod to change more easily, but hey, the mod by opening the adjustable pedal is a bit of dada in the MXR ...

SOUND QUALITY

Fuzz ultra filthy, organic and vintage sounding for my taste too sharp, even with extreme settings on the bass I think the fuzz sounds a little too loud and sharp. Of couse the most exploitable knob is very effective from 0 to third and bottom, but the first third to the extreme was not a significant change of the Fuzz.
The volume knob is monstrous, it is the same as the sound bypass around 8am! Imagine the boost that is available with any of the race remaining knob ...
The tone is quite effective and the bass bost mod brings a lot to her.

But hey, I do not like the sound of this fuzz, too loud, aggressive as possible, imprecise (the definition is lost in his game). With a knob to blend in more (as in Bass Fuzz Deluxe released recently, as what it was a requested feature) I could have put up with these features I think.
In short, this is relative here, we like it or not, I like it. But I can not deny that it's very good sound quality.

OVERALL OPINION

I used 6 months, I could not bring myself to keep it or not, I did not love him more than that but at the same time this pedal a little je ne sais quoi that you cling to each and pushes you to play, looking for the right setting for hours. To stop the torture I sold it, and someone who loves the strong personality of the little beast I hope.
In fuzz I've tried anything else, overdrive / distortion on the other hand I knocked.

I think I do not like because in reality this is not the pedal that I dislike but the effect itself, the fuzz on bass. Already on that guitar I think it's filthy and means, while on a low I fart a lead when I lost the clarity and precision in my game and then OverDrive know distos remain accurate.

It's a bit expensive, I think. But hey, it's MXR.

I do not think I would venture over to the side of fuzzs low, except in stores where I would have a crush on me or my needs and opinions should change.

Features already stated before. Simple enough, it's a very well made pedal, very solid, very compact size and connectivity standard for this type of pedal (input and output jack and plug for 9v industry)

UTILIZATION

Setup is fairly easy although it will take some practice to master the beast! the manual is clear though useless so the settings are natural and standard.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound is terrible and sounds very natural. The Fuzz is really wild so you have to tame it before  you can have fun with it. Otherwise it quickly becomes anything you want. It's super easy to get  low feedback  with the Fuzz engaged. Personally, I play with the Fuzz knob bottom or zero, but between the two, it looks like the pedal really hard (with a Stingray has a large volume as most active basses) When I play with my Ibanez which is passive, I can play with the Fuzz knob while not a huge influence on the sound. The tone is quite effective, I usually put 1 / 3 of its travel for a deep desert / stoner rock volume, bah is a volume, we will adjust the volume of his bass at all. A small lot is combined to trigger the deepswitch and tone up the last third of his race to keep the depth but also a few slam but it causes more waste and a sound faster feedback. The best is still to test the pedal to get an idea! I compared it to a big muff bass (same config bass / amp) the big muff is still more accurate but less character. It sounds really soft next to the MXR is a real pocket rocket!

OVERALL OPINION

I use the MXR Bass Fuzz for the past few months and I am really happy. It's really what I wanted to play in my group of desert rock.

The bass is really preserved and guitarists do not cover me when I'm Fuzz. I miss him more than just a good overdrive slamming and bright lines for more metal. But for fans of stoner, it's just the foot of hell!

I would do this choice a thousand times! But as I said, it can quickly go on a lollipop So, prudence on the set if it ensured the cacophony!

UTILIZATION

1 in 1 out a volume knob and a tone fuzz I find my sound in 5 minutes, not dry out, I use a personal morley ABY before the fuzz so I sound dry ahead of the fuzz I drive on another amp
there is also a small button "deep" that boosts or cuts the bass 15 db-15dB and a frequency of 87Hz 113hz adjustable in the battery compartment with a small cross 113 or 87 and a small knob - 15 15 (there are 4 screw out) so it is closed and RULES

SOUND QUALITY

I love the sound of this gnreux vritable fuzz that goes over my head and a 4X10 trace of the same brand, I play a 5 string EADGC, the house I pass on my old friend a torque T100BX him cash the same brutal fuzz it reminded him of his youth (he was a bass amp in a punk band in the early 90)

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 3 weeks
I tried a lot of fuzz: bass big muff / little big muff (guitar) and other BOSS ... and even integrated with multi-effects
but I find the panel's broader and less on the MXR synth (I have also some other pedals for that)
what I like most is the sound quality and manufacturing / finishing
lowest price but the quality is at RDV
