Aguilar DB 750

Aguilar DB 750Published on 05/08/03 at 15:00
I purchased this amp at ebay.com for $1500,
it's a second hand but very recent (5months).

It's the most versatile amp that I ever played. I have owned many for 15 years, SWR - Ampeg - trace elliot...etc. Nothing to compare !
very very powerful (even too much), and hight sound quality, it respects very much the natural sound of your bass. the all tube preamp stage gives a very deep warm tone, as much as (even more) any all tube amp.

That's a rock ! very heavy, with the rack case it's more than 50 lbs. impossible to carry by hand more than a block. If you don't have a car, forget it. Also,If you play at low volume, the 2 fans on the back make a loud noise, and the sound is not so great...…

Also,If you play at low volume, the 2 fans on the back make a loud noise, and the sound is not so great at low volume, the gain needs to be at least at 12 o'clock to give the deep warm sound, but anyway, it's a stage amp, not made to play at low volume...
the warranty of this product is 10 years, but not transferable to a second owner.why??????????

A very high handmade quality, I don't think you can find a better product on the market, also in terms of sound, aesthetic appeal,
durability. a very good point : there is a Jensen-balanced XLR output, better than ANY DI box on the market, so you give a very good signal to the sound guy in a concert situation.
For me it's the best amp ever.

This amp is definitely made for professional situations, it's a stage amp, for big venues.
If you only play on your garage or small clubs, you don't need that, you will never exploit the possibilities of it. with the master at 7 o'clock, it already takes off the wallpaper of your living room. Even in big clubs, you make the sound guy crazy if the master is up 10 o'clock, and you become deaf as well ! I play with 2 Gallien Kruegger cabs (4 x10 and 2 x 10)and in any situation,I have no problem to hear myself, even with 2 crazy guitarists and an heavy drumer !

Hybrid amp, other crap already have the technical description of this amp before me.

Small detail: The 12AX7 preamp has 3 instead of 2 for DB751 (following the model that replaces the DB750) because I think I read that the lamps on the DB750 tended to crack easily if you do not leave lamps properly cool before transporting.

Point Positive:
+ Simplicity
+ Appearance (perfect blend of modern and vintage)
+ Solid

Negatives:
- Speakon outputs only (ok it gets the standard but still some old cabs are still only in Jack, it requires appropriate cables in the event along with a backline already present on site, for example)
- Weight (it weighs a dead donkey)
- No line...…

- No line output jack (well it's not super important since we will still rarely play headphone with such a device but sometimes it helps out if you do not practice at home or something kind)

UTILIZATION

Very simple config. While it sounds already at noon with a big potato. It is far from fighter aircraft that require an adjustment period.

SOUNDS

I tested it with my band of Stoner rock and my group of Metalcore. In two cases, I disintegrated the mix!

Stoner Group 1: Gain thoroughly cruncher to lamps and light bass boost (there are two switches for buffs - treble and bass - in addition to the 3-band eq) that sounds absolutely hell with a stingray which brings one hand clapping but with a large depth in the bass with a nice thick crunch well.

Metalcore Group 2: Gain very light for a more clean. the two switch boost activated and medium slightly increased. I play an Ibanez BTB705 DX. Here we get a really powerful and deep growl (highlighted by the large sustain of the bass: p) The only thing he lacks is a good overdrive to get sick of watermelon: D (I think m provide an AGRO Aguilar to complete this config)

In short, despite the limited settings, this amp is capable of a lot! Like what, no need to have a war factory to be effective!

OVERALL OPINION

I have my head for a few weeks and I'm already in love. I bought it with the 4x10 Aguilar also (GS410) which has a nice presence and a big range of bass. This cab is pretty impressive too!

I tried quite a few heads as the common 3 SVT, SVT Classic, Trace Elliot GP7, Ashdown ABM 500, I may say that the Aguilar DB750 still plays in a different category ... (Although I have not tested a lot of amps :))

The only major disadvantage is its weight (even if for a tube amp / hybrid are not too many miracle, the lamp puts it) that does not allow me to use it with my 2 groups (or so I finished with herniated disc in 2 years)

No value for money to see here. It is expensive but it's a bomb and if it all over again, I would buy again this amp head!

As the photo above shows, this head has in all faade ncessaires CONTRL. We feel it t Designed for the sake of simplicity and quality: legalization minimalist power "comfortable" (monstrous?), No effect Intgr. This amp does not even compressor Intgr!
Rsultat this simple concept: one branch, it RULES gain and volume and go! In the case of this amp head, all this is a benefit standard ... o the right note!

UTILIZATION

The config is super simple and the XLR output symtrique Jensen ingnieur delight more than one sound. The control panel is so clear and concise as the use of any manual s'avre superfluous.
To the question "do you get a good sound easy?" I rponds: yes, a thousand times yes! That's the advantage of this head: one branch and sounds!

The construction is robust trs. The finish is exemplary. The knobs are sturdy, do not and have not crapottent of play this head is 20 kg construction craft amricaine panzer sauce.

L even for the extreme simplicity of use and construction gnrale trssrieuse, I am tempted to note with a 9.

SOUNDS

While the chapter sounds, it's something! Plutt as saying "this should head to the chaotic hardcore or musette", I say that this head prfrerais applies just reproduce the sound of your bass and nuances cres by your fingers. And what Manir! One feels the influence of well-trs lamps pramplification: the natural sound basic trs trs hot round. I tried this head for two hours prs in a store in Germany (I will not tell the face of other customers, especially bass players ...). I got more and dcrocher! She in turn with a couple silent cabinet Aguilar 4x12 "+ tweeter and a speaker Aguilar 2x12" + tweeter. In both cases, the sound is absolutely beautiful and DEFINITIONS of heat and compression possde natural beauty that would make you believe that a great compressor is inside the hideout ... With the baffle 4x12 "+ tweeter, you get an incredible sound pressure (personal, I never heard such a thing! An Ampeg SVT Classic Ms., ts is an amp room ...) . Each touch of rope becomes BOOM.'s foot! With 2x12 + tweeter, you get the same sound but with a lower sound pressure, empty (do not worry, it's all enough to fawn blow most cafés and regular rooms RPTES).

In fact, the great thing with this head, this is the impression that each merdouille located in a t calculated in such a fawn that the amp is naturally and basically "accordquot; on The low-IDEAL. The philosophy of this amp is, I think, "This guy, you're almost 1kW of her in the fingers. I'm the best to reproduce what you play, I will add warmth and compression of the lamps and provided with everything, you're not happy, eh ben achte yourself a PDAL of distortion or any other purpose but frankly, I'd be feeling sick because I give so much trouble to get you out the best sound in the world ... "

OVERALL OPINION

Extremely simple control panel, devastating power, and especially effective rglages sound of incredible beauty. In my essay in the music store, this amp has really screwed up the ass (especially since I had just before trying an EBS Fafner is frankly not that bad!). But Aguilar c'set madness! Limit one wonders why There's a legalization! The basic sound is so beautiful, warm, balanced ... boo ... It only remains for me that SAVE ... eating potatoes for 6 months ...

For those who have read my other dj review Audiofanzine you will notice that I'm not used to distribute high marks for fun, just to show I'm happy to prove to me or I m me that my hardware, "it's good!" Nan! I try to be a minimum goal.
For me:
10 = absolutely excellent, new references.
5 = average, nothing extraordinary, nothing dramatic.
0 = no, absolutely wrong

But the truth, I must admit that if this amp head reoit Aguilar does not have a 9 or 10, I do not see that then ... I put a 9 because I admit that in the Absolute on earth, it is possible that a craftsman handyman has Designed a head amp even better and it is still mconnu !

To get an ide:
If an Ampeg SVT Classic or a Mesa 400 + are respectively the Mercedes-Benz and BMW in the lower ...
If an EBS Fafner is the Rolls-Roys of the low ...
Aguilar DB750 then it ... uh ... ... Ariane 5?!

All the sounds are good with this amp. It is suitable for all styles: it just has to see the artists who play it ...

The best amp I try. Its perfect.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for about 6 months, no problems.
I love everything about this amp.
I tried almost everything on earth existing amps before buying ...
The question is no value.

I would do this choice, with ten thousand dollars more, I would buy a Phil Jones ...
