    SWR Bass 350

    SWR Bass 350Published on 11/26/03 at 15:00
New from local music store in 1995 or 96. This is the older version with the red face. Check the "vintage" section on www.swrsound.com for its details. Needed more volume than I could get from my SWR Basic Black combo.

    Paid about $500-550.

Simple to use. Great sound. Tube preamp. Compact. Nice looking.

Direct out for recording using amps settings or bipassing. Can use direct out without speakers connected.

Noise of the cooling fan? that's the best I can come up with, there's really nothing I don't like.

Design for mounting in rack case. Sturdy, metal. Nice looks. Easy to see controls. Rear mounting fuse for easy access.

bought it at long and mcqaude for $1050 can. plus tax.

good tone, easy to use, versatile eq.... oh yeah looks great dressed in chrome.

so-called "professional" rackmount unit has an fx loop that is not very compatible with other pro rackmount gear. fx send and return are too hot for other pro gear like my compressor (drawmer dl241) and my effects (lexicon mpx100). the bass 350 fx loop has been made for stomp boxes. i couldn't get a fully wet fx loop signal without the inputs on my fx units clipping out of control, whitch in turn caused my main output to be too low. i eventually sold the amp.

built like a rock. very solid. no complaints at all.

i have played many other 350 watt amps and trough my eden 210xlt, and they are much more powerfull(about 40%). i think that swr's name is a front. their amps have the looks and their tone is okay, but their have their priorities all wrong. i believe their primary client focus is on young teens who don't really know what they are buying. if you are a serious bass player, with pro gear, don't buy this amp. it won't be strong enough and it will be problematic down the road. look for ebs or eden gear. gear for bass players by bass players. trust me.

    Here's a head rack of 350 W RMS into 4 ohms (250 into 8 ohms)
jack on high and low impedance of the front panel.
    REAR
    output jacks on hp
    direct out
    effect loop insert
    control of
gain, bass, parametric middle, treble and a presence, a balance effect (send) and a swith (pull off) to cut the limit
Adjusting the EQ is fairly destructive, but all my taste is good if you keep the fingers slightly on the set

a switch in the back to send the direct out with pre or post preamp

    UTILIZATION

Bass amplifier design in a simple iron box

Adjusting the sound is not so far out of the transcendental sounds slamming (I must say that I use a speaker ampeg 410 h)

the limit is a transfer if the aim of the attack in the sound

    SOUNDS

To slap things are going well
    for harder sounds round
    the parameter is relatively inreglable

the effects loop is difficult also settle
    a multi purpose (MIDIVERB 4)
lacking a bass and treble boot

    OVERALL OPINION

I have 7 years I had the fan replaced pt

SWR does not sell to the individual it is difficult to find spare parts without going through the technical stations (you know in France?)

I like the look and simplicity of the machine

its price is too high for power

SETTINGS equalization is sorely lacking in precision

it's still a great amp that deserves its place in the brands even though the American giant in the rest innegalable

    GENERAL INFORMATION AND SPECIFICATIONS
The Bass 350 Bass Amplifier SWR Sound Corporation from WAS Designed for the player Who
Prefers a straight forward preamp combined with a power amp can Delivering Enough of power and headroom for MOST applications live.

The 350 malade the Same quality components and materials found in all SWR products assembled by hand and IS at our shop in Sylmar, California.

The Two preamp gain stages Utilize a specially selected Groove Tubes 12AX7. The tone controls Incorporate IC's and the power amp with very high Designed IS quality bi-polar devices. Each type of device WAS Chosen for STI Performance and Reliability in the application used. Aluminum Used For the IS chassis Because of its good electrical and thermal CHARACTERISTICS AND IS Much lighter Than Commonly Used cold rolled steel. All primary electrical components are UL Approved and we use Beldon Cable for all shielded wire.

As well as the extruded aluminum heatsink, the power amp IS thermostatically controlled cooled by a fan. This fan turns on When The heatsink 50 degrees centigrade and Reaches turns Itself Off When The heatsink Reaches 40-45 degrees centigrade. This allow for "silent running" when Used at low volumes. Be sure to leave at least a 1 / 2 "clearance Between the wind on the left side of the 350 Basic and side of the box or rack enclosure Any You Should Happen to install in your amp. This Will allow for the hot air to escape .

Everybody at SWR sincerely Hopes That the purchase of our product adds to the Enjoyment of your playing and That it lives up to all your expectations and more!

    UTILIZATION

With good light (which put me VHM Paris) in, the sound is sublime, with an average lamp is less transparent

of the great pre ebs eden & more "lampeux" spirit of Fafner so ebs

    it's high-end

    SOUNDS

On ten inches with a 2 trs good for bass

trs well for the marcus miller

with a 15 inch as well qu'ampeg => less powerful but all of the same (I compare with a head equivalent to ampeg Obviously), and less fat unless you put a lamp that will tend to saturation in the preamp

    OVERALL OPINION

Excellent price quality ratio compared ebs eden & too expensive for a diffrence that I find not so empty

I recall that aa t amp miller for 20 years before it turns to questions ebs for sponsorship
... And stanley clarke is in tjs SWR I think ...

but it is heavy to wear ...
