Avid is at IBC in Amsterdam where they unveil their new S6 modular audio control surface.

The Avid S6 is a modular control surface combining all the necessary tools professionals need to record, mix and edit.

The Avid S6 is based on the technology that was already used in the ICON and System 5 ranges and allows for simultaneous control of multiple Pro Tools or other EUCON compatible DAWs via a single Ethernet connection.

The modular concept allows for horizontal or vertical expansion. Two pre-configured models will be offered, they can also be customized if needed. Both S6 M10 and S6 M40 include the S6 Automation module (optional for custom setups based on the M40 module), which includes a full transport section, a fader focus, automation commands, colored displays and shortcut buttons, a numeric keypad and other commands.

The Avid S6 M10 is the smallest/medium model of the range and can host up to 9 modules, 24 faders, 5 buttons per channel and can work with up to 2 workstations simultaneously.

The S6 M40 is the intended for bigger studios, and supports up to 41 modules, 64 faders, 9 buttons per channel and 8 simultaneous DAWs. It is also compatible with the S6 Display high resolution module.

4 channel modules are available, you can then choose and combine:

Fader Module with 8 motorized faders, 2 LED level meters per channel, Backlit color LED Mute, Solo buttons, for up to 8 simultaneous tracks control

Button Module with 32 LED buttons, 32 OLED displays, 11 function selectors per channel with colored LED, and up to 32 simultaneous parameters control

Process Module with 8 multicolor LEDs (one per channel), 22 function selector per channel with colored LED, 8 OLED displays

Display Module (only on M40-based setups): high resolution TFT screen for 8 channels, buil-in monocard computer, for displaying the channel names, level meters, routing, groups, DAW integration, waveforms…

The Avid S6 desk is also modular, you can add, for example, sliding parts, speaker supports, and more.

The Avid S6 control surface will be available Q4, 2013. The M10 will retail from 17 799€ excl. VAT and the M40 from 34 900€ excl. taxes.
