I use this set for almost 2 years.
This is my first wind controller and I had never used before physical modeling synthesizer. I do not have a personal point of comparison.

Both instruments are designed to operate together, evidenced the presence of a front socket WX VL-70m.
I also use a Roland XV-2020, but the patches require reprogramming to respond correctly to controls WX-5.
I listened to the demos Akai EWI-4000S but I have not been convinced by the sounds emitted (!).

This type of equipment is expensive and will be more that is no longer manufactured and is in great demand.

the vl70m expendeur mono sound is a mono timbral and it contains 2 banks of 127 domestic non-editable its every one a rather specialized in keyboard fx are low .. This is a one-trick pony. A virtual acoustic modeller. In that respect its perfect, but it doesn't really do much else. WIth one note of polyphony also, it's meant for live, or single tracking in a sequencer.

UTILIZATION

Menu system sucks, too many button pushes to get to what you need. Manual is OK. Just average. Luckily, once you get all the sounds the way you want them, you can send Midi CC's to change 'em up easy from a midi controller or sequencer. Not a biggie as long as you come prepared.

SOUNDS

Best *affordable* acoustic synth out there. It's big brother has a better sound, but costs ~6x more.

OVERALL OPINION

Once you set it up, it's rock solid. Sturdy, and hasn't failed me yet!

If I lost it, I'd buy a new one the next day,. I know I trashed its features, but like I said, it's meant to do one thing... to give you the best synthetic acoustic sounds money can buy and in that respect it excels
