Apart from a sequencer practice but unable to compete with a computer station, the SQ2 (version 76 ratings of SQ1 Plus) is a synthesizer. Sounds can be edited and created from digital oscillators, wavetable or sample (internal). What makes the SQ2 has not really suffer the effects of fashion romplers.

UTILIZATION

The general configuration is simple?
Yes, it is a synthesizer / sequencer modest level functions. Even without a manual you can get away quickly.

The manual is clear and sufficient?
I do not have it on hand. A scanned version in PDF trolling on the net (SQ1 + manual since they are the same) in English. But ... not too much interest except to make maximum use of the sequencer.

Editing sounds and effects is easy?
For those familiar with the VA or analog synthesis editing the SQ2 is a bit problematic.
No real-time controller (outside the bend and modulation) except A slider next to the volume.
Most patients will return to the menus ... others will work with a computer via MIDI SoundDiver example.

SOUNDS

The sounds they are suitable to your style of music?
It's a SYNTHESIZER! The sounds are created with envy. If based on the factory presets that seems quaint (even if the grain is very nice) then no choice but to schedule it yourself.

The effects are they effective and appropriate?
Few, they troubleshoot. For the live, a good multi will do a bonus. For the studio, record sound naked and manage the effects with plugins seems more appropriate, even if the reverb is good and the chorus is rather subtle.

Are they realistic?
Um, I do not know what to say.
This is a reverb, it's a chorus, it's a digital delay ... and it does the job no more.

The expression is good?
The keyboard is nice. I prefer this type of shot in a semi-weighted cheap.
The wheels held up well, no latency.
Velocity is respected, I do not know if the keyboard aftertouch, for the cons SQ2 can receive.

OVERALL OPINION

For how long have you been using it?
SQ2 I had a few years ago, then I sold (stupidly). I just recover with happiness. Some sounds are really magical SQ2 (a few layers, organs, even thick leads). It's a good synth. Modest, not new but good.

Did you try many other models before getting this one?
Yes. Some newer ones that are not at all at the height ... and goods more powerful too.
Compare with another SQ2 be complicated. The synthesis of SQ2 is unique and the grain suffers.
Alongside a Kurzweil or Kawai we will be comfortable, complementary. Given the Korg (Triton or Z1) or Roland (Fantom and JV) that will be more difficult because the SQ2 is not a synth "bluff." This is the right of a third synth set up, for example. But not one to choose as the centerpiece.

What thing do you like most/least about it?
I like the sound, its material, its own grain rather hot and slightly velvety.
I do not like even if its weight is supported by a building at the edge of the tank.

What is your opinion about the value for the price?
A cheap (less than 250 euros) the SQ2 is a good plan. But it is a choice to grow a set up already serious. Do not buy it for its sequencer: it is not really what one might call "modern."
