"Priced high but worth it"

Native Instruments Traktor Kontrol S2Published on 09/06/11 at 20:59
It's essentially 2 decks an a full mixer, set up in such a way that the whole unit interfaces as well as possible with traktor. It's a true plug and play unit made to take the guesswork out of the whole, "how do I get my mixer and deck to work with traktor" problem. It's a true stereo unit with mic inputs and USB obviously. Ready to work fully with a PA. Effects and EQ are onboard. You obviously need a laptop or PC to get any real use out of it.

Let me say I've been a huge fan of traktor since I discovered it as a budding DJ and my love of Traktor is what motivated me getting this controller. It seems pretty popular even though the price had me scratching my head a bit.

Let me say I've been a huge fan of traktor since I discovered it as a budding DJ and my love of Traktor is what motivated me getting this controller. It seems pretty popular even though the price had me scratching my head a bit.

I am using the most up to date drivers and they work fine. No hiccups or crashing really. Seems to work 100% with traktor, and I've never used it for anything else. Typically I like to use this controller when I'm at home or when I have a serious show that I don't want to drag my "full rig" out to. It's probably the most functional and full featured thing I've ever used that only requires I plug into a laptop and PA really.

This board is configured a lot like a traditional mixer/deck as far as the layout goes, but there's a lot of modern control features due to the whole traktor integration thing. Not only does it have a very very extensive effects and eq section, but it has the 4 hot cue buttons, which might be the most useful feature I never knew I needed. The thing about this unit is you are really only limited to what you can do in traktor, which is a whole lot. At first this is a little intimidating because you feel kind of overwhelmed. I personally like to set it up as a more traditional mixing deck despite the fact that I could probably do a lot weirder things. But I suspect most users will do what I do anyway. The decks actually feel really good, which I didn't expect. Honestly this controller doesn't look like much but when you get your hands on it you realize it's a seriously functional device.

I don't have many complaints really. Yeah it's not cheap, but what you are paying for is the traktor support. I'm not a huge fan of the look of this controller. At some shows I will have DJ's check it out and kind of laugh if they are the more high brow types who prefer more organic looking units. This is definitely the future of DJ mixing decks I think, or where it's going. The possibilities when connected to traktor are just too awesome to ignore. I still think NI needs to improve this one though, as it's not 100% all it can be. But the quality is there. I'm keeping mine for now.

How long have you been using?
- This 1year do I use

Did you try many other models before buying it?
-I had a numark MIXTRACK PRO before my kontrol s2, as you say it changes when you go from one to the other ..

What is so special that you like most and least?
- Plus: Very easy to install, a move, to use (the grip to do quickly). Many effects, lots of fun live, the capabilities of the machine are fairly consistent even when we can do a lot of stuff and make good sympatic. For my part I use a launchpad I map for traktor and it is pleasant enough, the combination of the two is quite pretty and makes a lot more thing.

-The least: It is not very reliable / solid, let me explain:......

-The least: It is not very reliable / solid, let me explain: I have two buttons that effect do not work very well and my left deck no longer works very well for scratching.

How do you rate the quality / price?
- I bought mine new and promo (€ 399) so at this price I judge the quality / price excellent. Now I came across a promo and I think the base price (€ 480) a bit expensive.

With experience, you do again this choice?
- Without hesitation, I think this is the best mixer 2voie market at this price. If you do not hesitate héistez is perfect for beginners who want to go up a level and enter a world of "semi-pro". The possibilities are numerous and it is a delight to evenings with this table

hi!
I use this controller for 7 months

this is the first I try

I love being able to take it everywhere, instaler in 2/2 being mobile enough (I work in season) it really m'convient.

the less impossible to cut trebbles / medium / low mini ... c con but we made it and maybe quality over time? Finally, I do not ca air as beefy enough gear.

its a great value for money there is no better j'pense for a beginner it is easy to use and the sync! dj and confirmed will be bursting with well and is both complete (indeed, cue, samples, 2 decks + 2 decks, etc. ..) and can be used as an adjunct or possibly in troubleshooting at a party It will be a serious case!

I remake that choice without hesitation

I mix half a score of years since, I mixed all the time on vinyl plate (mk2) never paltines cd I bought traktor scratch (timecode) 2 years ago, the product I was more and more mobility (I live half the year in truck), I wanted to test this controller and the ca frankly quite well.
The knob is really faders and cross frankly c solid, we can go, good must not be a nag as normal then what! traktor interface is very well thought intuitive, it is a pleasure to mix a beginner or already confirmed will find happiness. the size of the controller is small enough it is quite confusing at first but got used to it very quickly, and chock tracks with jogs is simple enough for the purists! I even mixed in ptites 3 nights this summer on walls ptits speakers, the sound was really good, I eatais surprised and no bug, the browser selection is great for practice, and ther are a lot of thing more ...
to buy with your eyes closed! (In this price range, not tested after the other but more expensive)
