Seagull Grand

Seagull S GrandPublished on 05/23/04 at 15:00
I purchased this fine "parlor" sized guitar at my local music store. I wanted a smaller acoustic to play anywhere without any worries. I paid about $300.00.

The comfortable size and portability of this guitar are the features I like the most. It also sounds very nice, and that is the bonus I was not expecting. It is nicely crafted, which I find typical of all Seagull products. No fear taking it outside for some open air playing.

I thought the action was a little high, but went right to work on the saddle and with a little careful sanding (150 grit paper), had it adjusted to my liking in no time. Due to the price paid for it, I am not afraid to do some set up work myself.

The Seagull demonstrates first rate construction and quality. I look at the nut first, and it is very clean with the strings sitting at just the right position in the nut. The finish is clean, and the cedar top is prone to small nicks etc., but that is what cedar is all about. Inside the guitar is spotless, with no evidence of glue, shavings or other signs of shoddy work.

Great instrument that is easy to play, looks nice and sounds great. I reach for this guitar first.

ébec, format parlor.
-Solid cedar top,
-Cherry laminate sides,
-Maple neck (tinted) large enough,
used up to the 14th fret (no cutaway)
-Rosewood,
-Chartered quite thin and very well finished,
Nitrocellulose lacquer-thin and very fragile.
Tusq nut-.

I spent a whole day Pigalle before buying this guitar. I was looking for a format or parlor folk (petty cash) for max 400 €.
I tested quite a model that day:
AMI-art lutherie folk and
-A wasburn parlor
Takamine new yorker-a
-One guild (model unknown?)

The seagull won

UTILIZATION

light guitar and very nice, fairly massive macnhe does not move a muscle, action very low and well balanced.
limited access to acute (no need to be a specialist to understand).
varnish hyper sensitive but, IMHO, let the wood resonate better than 4 mm of polyurethane varnish that I've seen on other guitar at the same price.

SOUNDS

projection large enough size of the box.
its very balanced: low present without being intrusive, treble content ...
ideal for playing finger (pure bliss!) or arpeggio. on the other hand if you get the buggers a mediator to assist you while bellowing like an ox and quickly dirty the result, it is not a dreadnought!
plain ideal reduced volume.
guitar hyper react well to the game, refers to any attacks on the nuances of the strings, hit the left hand ... there really is something to play with.

OVERALL OPINION

In conclusion cheap model, not made in china, with good feature, no frills (very simple) and a nice sound.

sustainability level in my opinion there is no problem, mine was already one occasion, she has not moved since I bought it.

try!

Ct CHARACTERISTICS see Audiofanzine or the Seagull website - the one I bought is not electrified (that said, I have not heard as many microphones Seagull).
Small guitar, made in Canada, 14 boxes, no varnish, which causes (and yet I'm pretty careful) acclr aging ... Channel nice. Aesthetics only problem for me, the head, how do we call a, dj the top of the neck, I find it ugly trs. Petit, plutt ridiculous. We can not have it all. For less than 400 euros, all seems correct. Ah yes, last BMOL: for the price indicated no book cover, and given its size, I have not found (no long search) to cover fits.

Ah yes, last BMOL: for the price indicated no book cover, and given its size, I have not found (no long search) to cover fits.

UTILIZATION

To use ... Well, all dpend use, although sr ... I had to make the IDE dpart QLQ something approaching the blues, and to have a guitar gnralement mat, to make expriences tuning DIFFERENT, trs twirling ropes quickly, almost for fun (important, have fun, right?) but not cough up the thousands of euros ncessaires obtaining a "brand" (Gibson, Guild, or Maurice Dupont has since the spring 06 in the catalog a triple zero, as they say, but it takes at the del thousand euros) (I do not have the price prcis, is a trs nice site for a). So something lightweight, easy to transport, play ... be it with fingers or MDIA (v'savez, the finger picking). And I found what I wanted. Channel friendly. Ergonomics: I use a strap, because it is too small for me to press the thigh. Correct. No cutaway.

SOUNDS

Saw what I described above, it is understood that should the Grand p'tite what I wanted. I used it in a kind of performance, and accompaniment sounds improviss qlqs songs outdoors without amplification: it sounds enough (it is always difficult to say a small guitar like a The ring can ... SETTING THE basic fact that it borders with relative ease, it is that's what I was looking for. I put in Xlight (l c'tait too soft for me) and the custom light phosphor bronze. I remember a blues guitarist (ct Bordeaux) who played a Large rises with ropes Argentina (gypsy): stony silent sound desire.

OVERALL OPINION

So that's six months APRS have bought (on the Internet, without having previously tried other than 5 minutes + evokes up with this singer guitarist of the Gironde), I'm tr s satisfaction. She took qlqs shock, it will take further, I added a protective plastic like flamenco guitar, a limited strokes MDIA, the complete lack of polish is probably the only true d need (yes, the head awful), but hey, for 390 euros ... in fact it is a good value trs-quality prices. Guitar fun and INTERESTED. Will probably lectrifier, the tudi I have not the issue. I put 7 / 10, I would put just two points in the + folk Dupont while it is out of proportion, but for the price quality ratio. Not for the value intrinsque. There's one that we should not ask anything, even when ...
