I have since the end of March 2006 the new Starclassic Performer BB in Tama. Desiring to replace my ES Arstar I first looked at the old Starclassic Performer, but when I saw a catalog that her replacement had just come out, I had eyes for her.
The finishes are beautiful on! The clip tom is a marvel of construction (sturdy chrome and all clothed). Nothing to do with the old system Star Cast. And in terms of its color (cherry red degraded I chose from a catalog) ... and although there are no words, she is beautiful.

Second small problem: the standard sizes of toms.

then I wanted to have this type of configuration (to let my 22 * ​​16 12 * 10 13 * 11 16 * 16 * 6.5 and 14 aside) I first wanted me to do custom but the price was not the same. So I opted for a 22 * ​​18 10 * 8 12 * 9 16 * 14 (because no Tama offers more than 16 * 16).

Upon receiving my Starclassic, the first thing that struck me is the sound delivered by the bass drum: a warm, powerful, like the Bubinga!
Then the toms were fairly easy to adjust (and no more harmonic attenuator that can be positioned on the skin), the sound is clean and no vibration disturbs the whole.
The only instrument that asked me trouble was the snare drum. The sound was not as dry and short as I could imagine. After change of tone (which buzz repeated but also when I used the toms) by replacing it with an EQ Puresound 16 and have put a Evans Genera HD Dry skin, I finally found the ideal sound.

So if you want to invest in equipment of very good quality / price ratio, go ahead. The Starclassic is the only category in the 1500/2000 euros to compete with the pros batteries.

I use the Starclassic Performer B / B in May 2006, what strikes most is the bass drum, which sound! very fat and deep (with skin aquarian super kick II), with a huge projection.
I have the kit 22/18, 10,12,14 in antique sunburst, I wish I had a kit but no 12/13/16.
I also like the fastening system of toms with lots of grouping of settings, the toms sound as deep although my taste is difficult to resolve, the harmonics are manageable in acoustics, but when it beeps in it is essential matte skin a little stamp, but frankly set the stage well it sounds really PRO, same is for the snare, it is very powerful, I have tried many different models in the same price range, the frankly I did not get any better, if you need to type in the series custom maple, (sound designer for example.) and there is not the same budget.
in retrospect I do not regret at all this investment, I am even really pleased, especially as tama is a sign of strength in terms of hardware.
