Lexicon MPX G2

Lexicon MPX G2Published on 03/14/04 at 15:00
Paid $550. Got it off ebay in mint condition.

The Construction of the unit is great, and comes with alot of useful options. The interface seems difficult at first, but once you skin through the important parts of the manual you get a hang of it. It has great Midi Mapping features, along with some awesome effects, not to metion the amazing "Lexicon Reverb".

The only thing i dont really like about the unit is the 2 line display. But it isnt bad, it's all good.

Great construction, i've done many gigs with it, not a scratch yet. Never failed me yet.

Bottom line, i would pickup one of these modules. It's almost a "Must" for any rack setup. It has all the crazy wierd effects you need,...…

Lexicon MPX G2 guitar effects processor

Lexicon MPX G2Published on 12/27/02 at 15:00
I purchased my first MPX G2 from ZZounds
for $999.95. The second one I purchased
from Mars going outta business sale for
$550.00. The first one was sent back. The main reason I purchased the second one is
because I liked some of the effects the unit has. It was also advertised as being able to record direct with no amp.

The unit has several effects that I really
like (flanger, delay and some of the compressed effects). The Jam man 20 second
looper is a nice feature.

The main reason I sent the first unit back
is because of the excess hum and noise
when it was plugged into my amp which is
a new fender 65 super reverb. I also tried

The main reason I sent the first unit back
is because of the excess hum and noise
when it was plugged into my amp which is
a new fender 65 super reverb. I also tried
the unit with my other amps and got the same results (a roland BC60 Blues cube and
a fender princeton chorus). When using it to
record (into a boss BR-8) I experienced quite a bit of feedback (after the last note was played) on some of the effects which was quite annoying. The second
one I purchased from Mars was less noisy than the first (I had the opportunity to plug it in to an amp and test it before I
purchased it) but there was still a great deal of feedback on some of the effects when
I used for recording again.

The MPX G2 is a rack mount unit and it solidly constructed. Where the unit lacks
the quality is in the electronics or parts
used to connect it to other amps.

I would not recommend buying this unit unless they found a bargain basement price
like the one I found at Mars. Secondly in
order to use some of the effects properly you must purchase the foot controller for another $400. More than likely you won't be happy after shelling out $1400 for the unit
and the foot controller ! I would highly
recommend a Boss GT-6 over the Lexicon. The
effects are very similar and it has the
Wah/volume pedal attached right to it.
(somehow its $1000 less expensive !). I even
prefer my Johnson J-Station for recording
over the MPX G2.

Multi-purpose 1U. All effects are just the guitarist (compressor, tremolo, Univybe, wha-wha pedal, volume, whammy, chorus, flanger, phaser, delay, reverb, parametric equalizer bands 1,2,3 or 4, etc.).
Double comprehensive connectivity: effects type compressor, wha-wha, univybe volume, etc. can be applied before the preamp, as you would with a set of pedals. The effects of delay, modulation and reverb are inserted in the effects loop of your amp, ideal.
the best way to use the rack, in my opinion:
1: Guitar input to MPX, MPX G2 to send input amp, amp to send back MPX G2, MPX G2 main output loop back to amp.
Can connect a footswitch and an external expression pedal.

UTILIZATION

Edition of the general principle is relatively simple: a button type of effect parameters and edition by traveling through the menus. The manual is therefore ClaI but in terms of programming possibilities of the machine. Absolutely everything is editable: order effects routing, insertion point, MIDI CC assignment expression pedal, three mapping to assign different MIDI program numbers at the preset.
A small flaw: there is not to my knowledge of software for editing via PC.

SOUND QUALITY

Besides the analog preamp section I do not use all the other effects are worthy of the reputation Lexicon: accuracy, transparency.
The two models of wha-wha (Cry Baby and Vox) are excellent.

The sound quality is at the appointment.

OVERALL OPINION

I use the machine for 3 months and I have not toured the extensive range of programming. Of all multi-effects I used, there's no photo, is the most complete and most versatile. the enormous advantage of the dual connection is a real bonus, I no longer use the right pedal, which is impossible with any other rack if you use an effects loop.
I bought it second-hand and do it again this choice in a heartbeat.
