For the solo performer

Mackie ProFX8Published on 10/10/12 at 21:33
The Pro FX8 is a 8 channel mixer that comes with effects right on the unit. The FX8 is a smaller mixer but packs a powerful punch with all of its features. It allows you to stream and record through USB. This mixer is perfect for performing in a smaller club or for someone who performs solo by themselves. All of the preamps have high headroom and some really good effects and EQ ability. The RMFX are 32 bit effects that add some style to your mixes.

UTILIZATION

The Pro FX8 is very simple to use, there really is not a set up process and no manual is needed to learn to use the FX8. The unit is very well built like most of the Mackie mixers that they have come out with over the last few years.

SOUNDS

It has 8 channels with no direct outputs. You will need to connect it to your PC via USB. There are a 3 band channel and 7 band stereo EQ. Being that this is an affordable mixer and doesn’t have all of the great features of expensive boards, it does not have a Talkback option which is why it is more for personal and home use. The unit is pretty light and can be taken with you from place to place without feeling like you are lugging around more heavy gear on top of what you already have to carry.

OVERALL OPINION

If you are a small club performer or a solo musician, then this mixer will fit you perfectly. It has all of the effects and features you need to add to your sound and your mix. It cost less than 250.00 dollars and it is well built. I have been using this mixer for certain projects since August of 2011 and have not had a single issue with it and don’t think they I every will.

great onboard effects

Mackie ProFX8Published on 06/28/12 at 23:31
The Mackie Pro FX 8 is a great mixer, it is very similar to the FX 12 that I purchased, but this is the one that I had first. The only reason that I got rid of it and move on to the FX 12 was because of the ability to have 12 different instruments coming in. I really needed a few more and 8 just didn’t cut it for me anymore. But if you are looking for a device that has built in effects and can be hooked up to your computer via USB. This is exactly what you have been looking for.

UTILIZATION

Getting started was pretty easy, had to read a little bit out of the manuals just to figure a few things out, the manual on the FX 8 was pretty easy to understand and it wasn’t too big like I thought it was going to be like some other manuals on mixers that I have used.

SOUNDS

The sound is great, clear and crisp on all of your devices and instruments.

OVERALL OPINION

I say if you are looking at getting this, I saw you mine as well spend a little extra cash and just get the FX 12. That way if you get some more gear down the road you will have space for it, I really don’t see the point in getting this now for what the price is when if you spend a little more you can get 12 in puts and have room to grow. Because if you use a lot of live instruments and gear then you will eventually need to upgrade from the FX 8 anyways so in order to save your self some money and a head ache in the long run just go ahead and spend a little extra cash and get the Mackie pro FX 12. But if you arent using all of the 8 inputs and only using a few of them, then go ahead and get the 8. Just make sure you have room to grow either way.

decent mixer for the price

Mackie ProFX8Published on 10/06/11 at 22:40
The Mackie Pro FX 8 packs a lot of power in a small footprint. While being small, it is built to take the knocks of the road and satisfies the home user as well. The effects are quality and after a little usage time you quickly learn the nuances and sweet spots of the mixer to suit your needs. Both Condenser and Dynamic mics are satisfied with it's onboard power. I'd recommend this to anyone needing a smaller mixer but still wanting quality

UTILIZATION

I had no problems getting started with this mixer, the Mackie Pro FX 8 runs great!

SOUNDS

Very low noise and very smooth sounding, crystal clear sounding.

Very low noise and very smooth sounding, crystal clear sounding.
My AKG C 535 condenser mic sounds amazing through this mixer.
The good thing is that it is smaller and lighter then the previous DFX 6.
What I like about this mixer is for the price you get great features,
a stereo 7 band graphic EQ.

OVERALL OPINION

This mixer produces a good clean sound to the new powered QSC K 12's I have. More head room overall from the board on the Mackie 808s powered mixer I just retired. The board design has good quality with the knobs and sliders with the exception of the EFX selector knob, which seems of less quality from the rest of the board. The EFX are clean and clear, however my ear does not hear a distinct difference in several of the 16 selections. Overall though a good deal for the money. Note..This is the only board of it's size that has graphic EQ for controlling Mains or Monitors..I checked several other brands for that feature and other than Carvin (8 channel only) this is it. If keeping a setup simple with good sound and a lot of features in a compact setup is important, then this is the main show in town. If not the only!

An entry that DI is also present, allowing direct connection of a guitar or bass.

UTILIZATION

Everything is simple and intuitive

SOUNDS

Very good, little breath, good eqhualiseur

OVERALL OPINION

Excellent stuff is just unfortunate that the A / D converter has standard quality.
Bits 92Khz/24 a model would have been welcome. But for the price it is great.

USB noise problems are resolved by the latency of the soundcard to 256 to 512 samples in the buffer.

In summary, excellent product and ratio Q / P. This is a mixing desk, high-quality but small group and record layouts.
Do not plan to use with a DAW, latency too long and some short sample. If it is not beyond the scope of its use, it remains unbeatable ratio Q / P.

Good music
