I have a fundamental house setup program/sophisticated pc/ sophisticated mic, mixer. I am having a hard time recording vocals that do not sound like they are from a live show. They are not in cohestion with the instrumentation of the various tracks and I am unsure what I should adjust to create a studio recorded sound. I'm sure this is quite elementary but I need help....

Can you post something so we can hear it?
What mic are you using? How far away are you singing from it? What kind of music? There are a million factors that need to be defined here.
Try adding a little compression to the vocals to squeeze the frequency range down closer to that of the music. I think you'll find it makes a big difference.
