Lukaskran « Creamy but uneven »
Published on 10/06/13 at 06:26I am paid a set neck / bridge. They replaced the humbuckers base of my Les Paul Studio. Before that I was on Stratocaster and Les Paul Epiphone. I wanted to get a clicking sound but 'fat' at the same time, combining the best of both.
I thought the P90 would do the trick but eventually compared to her I look for in my group (http://www.ouisabotage.com/) bridge pickup lacked much fishing, I am separated in April 2013 for a Lollar El Rayo.
The neck pickup has followed me for a while but the hi-gain pedals I use forced me to return to the humbucker (to avoid the buzz on my presets the most 'noisy' the microphone is far from noiseless) Magna'Tron a TV Jones in September 2013.
I loved the hinged side of the P90, not muffled as I heard on LP or SG fitted with this type of microphones. The neck was especially nice in its sounds 'creamy', well suited to good old rock typical 60s-70s (except that it's not what I'm looking again).
Very good build quality (made in UK), robust, easy to install and service without fault (the same day to answer my questions about the setting). Q / P ok, the average price for a micro handmade.
The bridge pickup is not at all to my taste so not much to say about it. Given the build quality, it must be worth its weight in euros for an amateur to P90 in the bridge.
This is especially the neck pickup, whose reputation is second to none, which altogether worth. Saturated fat should be avoided. Little twang, enough 'fat' but beautiful articulation, beautiful sounds clean / crunch.
Looking back, I'm definitely done for the humbucker, but it's still a very nice P90, especially in the neck position.
