It's a set I since 2001.
I originally ordered a set SA/SA/85 in passing that did nothing but set the same except that the 89 compared to 85 consists of two microphones in one, offering an SA 85 the possibility of a real sound simple + simple 4-position (intermediate) of the 5-position switch traditional Fender type, which means that "split" the 89 sounds like a SA.
The grain EMG has the qualities of its defects, it is a simple matter of taste.
However they are very good microphones. This series is designed for sound I would describe as more "roots". In terms of power, it is still served, it is clearly in the asset. But the sound remains soft and moëleuse the attack, nothing to do with the 81 that have such a more incisive attack and a sharper spectrum.
SA sound like the real simple but with the grain EMG reminder that sometimes just the sound of a guitar in his electro-acoustic clear.
The neck pickup sounds very bluesy in saturation and intermediate positions are dug (and his style Knopfler Pensa-Suhr)
The 85 or 89 double, saturation defends really well.
The sustain is greatly improved due to the weaker magnetic field of these microphones.
I chose this set of microphones at the outset to find the grain of the 80 California (Lukather, Landeau, Carlton ...) and "upgrade" to a Yamaha PAC604w (although the original pickups are correct) failed to thickness and sustain.
The result has met my expectations.
These microphones are not given, but they do what most microphones are not, they really transformed the sound, the personality of the guitar is very heavily modified. When a passive micro highlights or not certain characteristics of your acoustic guitar, EMG them impose their color and sustain.
Among the many models of microphones that I had the opportunity to test the EMG with Lace Sensor are those that require the most personality. I prefer EMG SA 85/89 and probably matter of taste.
