I have an E-Mu 0404 and use Sonar 4 Producer for recording. I undestand that you need to preamp your guitar while recording with the 0404 so I purchased a Behringer V-Amp 2. Works great.
The problem I'm having is that the record signal in the E-Mu patch mixer seems to be in the red before I can get a decent record level in Sonar.
I have the V-amp2 patched into the line ins on the 0404. By the time I get my record levels in Sonar near the 0db point, the e-mu is peaking above 0db in the red constantly. Is this normal or will it damage the e-mu or am I simply doing something wrong? Anyone know something about this?
what peaks is the DBa meter (the analog one), while the meter in sonar shows your DBv (in other words, millivolts). your emu has 114 DB of A/D dynamics, so it can handle really LOUD singnals.
don't worry, as long as you don't peak in sonar, you'll be fine.
