Static Mic lamp, three directional

OVERALL OPINION

I've had 10 months in my home studio.

I tested a number of models ranging from Chinese mic 200 euros until neumann U87. By changing the lamp Tesla advocated by rroland (thank you to him), we arrive at a class its really slipping into the mix without a lot of tweaking the mix. I pass in a single Goldmike.

I tested it on my voice and that of a singer I work with and also on my acoustic guitars.

The microphone is true, with a nice relief. 3 directional enable wider use and exploration of decision to make.

Given the result, I find it really fair price. In any case an excellent value for money. I additionally, a microphone that surprised me the Oktava MK-105 in very good voice and excellent on acoustic guitars.

no points of comparison in this price range.

+ Nice look / sound nice and finally ... for female voices (bass with us in relation to female standard), the tendency to eat by its lower midrange. So actually an impasto effect ... But we have realized that a sound from the part not influence bad, on the other hand the physical "approach" micro changed much sound (what a discovery .. ). Caught with k2, and if we play with the directivity and that shifts the attack (via / distance) we really get sounds nice.
Similarly by having left connected by chance (yes I am a burne ..) I made some really beautiful acoustic recordings (guitars).
Value for money: good
Yes I would do this choice, in line microphone that can do everything correctly. Basically for us, a singer / singer = 1 microphone. I mean there a voice, if you want to make it special, to "find" the microphone, and in this sense full of surprises are possible (positive in terms of budget). (ElectroVoice for serious female voice example). remains the K2 is a good mic, polyvalent.Je will also change the lamp for TESLA, to hear what happens.

OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 1 month and I vien to change the lamp, electo harmonix 6922 (poor quality because the sound is dry and rough) and after changing the lamp to a Tesla E88CC micro changes completely! A more accurate, more musical and warm, pretty low medium and treble well crafted not "ssss" or "ffff", a more forward in the mix.

I had micro low end starting MXL v67g, behringer, prodipe, I am the above. Miss her strangely can rapeler that of a TLM193.

What I like least is c: the lamp of origin ... I almost resell the microphone but no question of the sale. It has its place in a park largely micro c is on. But beware c is the mix that makes the difference behind like all Mic ...

If I had the choice again I would certainly do it again but I prefer to test several other mics for comparison

The Rode K2 is a Large Diaphragm vacuum tube condenser microphone with a very low self noise and a good wide dynamic range. The K2 has a very classic sound to it once you start changing the tubes you will see how much better this microphone can get than what it already is. The Rode K2 is very good for vocals and a few different instruments. I have heard it on acoustic guitar and on piano and it sounds great with both of those instruments. The K2 is built very tough and can take some abuse without it causing any problems. One of the things that I disliked about the Rode K2 is some times the mids and low mids get a little over powering. You might not notice it at first but when you go to do your final touches on the mix you will hear how bad it can get. I had to do some pulling back on those lower mid frequencies and boost some high end frequencies from time to time. This could just be on my voice , I am not sure because I have not recorded anyone else with this microphone to compare too.


OVERALL OPINION

This microphone cost 700 dollars and can compete with microphones in the 1000 dollar range easily. I have been using this microphone since 2010 and stop using it in 2011 due to getting some near gear for my home studio. It has an shock mount built in that has great vibration resistance. The K2 has a good finish on it and doesn’t scratch easy and it will look great in your studio. I have used many of Rode’s microphones and the K2 is one of the better ones they make, it is priced fairly and competitively. It will last you a long time if you take care of it. It doesn’t matter what kind of music you make or even what instrument you are playing and recording, the Rode K2 will take care of it.

The K2 is a tube condenser microphone ideal for home studio willing to take snapshots vocal (sung and spoken) or instrumental.
Its strong point is undoubtedly its versatility and price / quality ratio. (Key point in buying a first Micro Studio).
The build quality is very good and it is heavy which accentuate the Broadcast.

OVERALL OPINION

I bought my K2 2 months ago I was already recorded four songs with my band.
Before buying it I realized all my dealing with 1 or 2 Shure SM58 / Nothing to do and yet you tell me, I énormémment progress in making the scenes with these microphones whose reputation is second to none.
So all need, the act of placing a tube condenser microphone, its just the day and night in terms of accuracy and overall quality.
But rest assured, before buying it I worked in several professional studios where I could make the ear on Neumann (TLM 103, U 87, AKG, Schoeps ...) which are enough microphones expensive but high quality.
In short what I like is the precision in the upper midrange and treble, the bass come out ok but nothing special. Another point is the exellent directivitées three variables with the option to mix 2. explanation:
The 3 directivitées (omni, cardio or bi-directional) are adjustable from the power supply by a three-position rotary knob not fixed, can be knob plkacé between omni and cardio for example. I've never tested this and it still has many advantages especially in the positioning of microphones. (This is for me an important decision of + acoustic instruments).

To conclude I recommend the Rode K2 for all home studio willing to make a good first investment in a tube condenser microphone. This is my best investment and I intend to buy me a second to make stereo jacks. (Live concerts, Piano ...) A MUST!
Obviously it is not worth one Toutle Neumann tube but does not have the budjet world.

OVERALL OPINION

I used 2 months. Before that I had tested or microphones such as Neumann TLM 103 and U87, the prodipe stc 3d, behringer b2 pro, Rode NT2, AKG Perception 220, m-audio sputnik and so it rode k2.

This mic is not bad, far from it.
That said if you are looking only for a microphone jacks voice (which was my case) I think there are better (in this price range I think the "Oktava mk-105" in "neumann tlm 102", to "mk4 Senheiser" in "AUDIO TECHNICA AT4033", etc ...)

Anyway, that's why I sold it and I saved to buy a Neumann TLM 193 (very very good mic that I recommend to everyone)

The value for money is good.

With experience I will not go that choice, but again this microphone is good, it is an excellent choice for those who want a fairly versatile microphone.
