I've been playing for about 30 years, a little bit of everything rock, country, pop, alternative, etc.

Was looking around ebay for an Epi paul. Found this one for $200 used. Its about 5 years old I believe, but it's in really great shape.

I like the feel, I like the action, I like the look of it. It's a wine red with gold hardware. Really sharp. This guitar also has a lot of sustain which makes it sweet for old hair metal riffs that are overdriven.

There's a problem keeping the G string in tune. I don't know if it's the nut or the tuners, perhaps even the bridge, but its so sensitive its sort of a pain in the butt. Also, even though the guitar has some decent sustain, it's just not as heavy as a regular Gibson Les Paul, at least it doesn't seem so to me. Not that it matters that much, but to me that sort of tells you about the quality of the axe too.

Other than the wierd tuning issue and my comment about weight (which is probably related to the wood used or something), the fit and finish are pretty good. I'm not sure where these are made, probably Asia, but they're not made in the U.S., I'm pretty sure of that.

Overall, to get an Epi Les Paul for $200 that's only 5 years old and is in great shape is a good deal to me. It was the perfect present to myself. It looks good, plays nice, and sounds great. I'm pretty happy with it. Other than the tuning issue which drives me nuts.. need to take that to the shop to see what they can do.

Gibson les Paul Classic 1590.00


I picked it up at sam ash. I liked the style of the classic. I Play a fender and the necks of the classic are similar. Both are tapered . The neck on the classic seems a little wider then the fender, but it plays nicely.




I like the way the guitar plays, rather fast for a gibson. The dbl humbuckers are "susstain city' , something hard to come by with my fender( which I Love!) unless you use the effects, or switch the pick ups. Overall the gibson classic is nice, and cheap ...it was the only Les Paul I could afford



What I didnt like , was the support from gibson itself. About a month after puchasing the guitar, I went to remove it from its case. The case has a locking combination mechanism , similar to an attache case. Well the mechanism would not release. A friend of mine had a similar problem. He ended up removing the lock( and damaging the case) Anyway, I e-mailed gibson, told them of my problem, and received a reply. I was told to find a luggage repair center so they could open the lock.....??. When I explained it was a NEW guitar, I was told. 'Sorry' and that the cases are made in canada...cant help you'. Is that customer support?..I dont think so. i had a similar problem with my fender case a year..thats right..one Year after I bought it.. I was sent a new case. i dont mean to Bash gibson, but yes, it did leave a bad taste..especially after shelling out 1500 bucks. Hope I didnt bore you..just 'beware'


The guitar is very heavey and seem very well made. The case however, ...the locking mechanism tends to malfunction. Mine did and i still have a guitar locked in the case. Ive heard of others having the same problem



gibson makes great guitars.. we all know that, and usually we will never need to call for repairs or warranty service. But it is nice to know, especially with the price of guitars these days, that if support is needed due to a defect by the manufacturer, that you will be treated properly and promptly. Unfortunately..that's not the 'case' with gibson.
