Blue, heavy duty aluminum stompbox, with three dials: Growl, Dry and Girth. Mid+ switch for mids boost. Standard heavy duty footswitch. Mono in and out, Powered with single 9V battery optional AC adapter.

Tried at a local music store. I was curious what changes MXR had made to the earlier Bass Octave, which I own.

Tracking seemed fine, and the Mid + switch helped to make the bass cut through a band mix. The Dry knob allows blending of octave and straight bass signal: all the way to the left produces a synth-like octave below the fretted note. Twiddling the Growl knob gives you a midrangy octave; Girth adds a deeper harmonic.

Not much, but I wish they had offered an Octave Up option as with the Bass POG. Some players have commented that tracking is spotty, bu that's not my experience. I suspect that these users have been trying to produce an octave below their already-low B string. In my experience, an Octaver works best when you play no lower than the open A string; the higher, the better, in fact.

As are all MXR products, the Bass Octave Deluxe is built like a nuclear bomb-proof bunker.

The MXR Bass Octave Deluxe is an affordable choice for bassists looking to add some depth or soloists looking for different sound. Mid + switch is a nice touch to help you cut through a band mix.
