    Ibanez Ergodyne EDB 605

    Ibanez EDB605Published on 09/22/03 at 15:00
I bought it from a private seller who upgraded to a Mike Lull Bass. I bought it for $350, he bought it at bass NW in seattle for around $700.

This bass is much lighter than the solid maple bass I played before. It has great mid range and low end tone. The action is low and fast with hardly any fret buzz. The bass contour is great and very comfortable to play. In my opinion the body style is nice and not as wild (ugly) as the new ergodynes. It has two ibanez active soapbar pickups and active 9v preamp w/ 3band eq. This bass is very flexable with a great slap sound or good low end. If you can pick one up for a good price, do it (check ebay).

Not the most beautiful bass compared to the exotic wood basses out there but the price difference is worth it. The stings may be set a little close for some slap / pull playing but is fast for picking or finger playing styles.

Luthite body w/ matte finish, maple neck, two ibanez active soapbar pickups and active 9v preamp w/ 3band eq. Good quality and construction.

If you can pick one up for a good price, do it (check ebay). Good bass for the money. I use it live on stage and love it. I ran it through a rack compressor and then into the house system and it sounds great. I give it a four there is always room for improvement unless you have a $5000 custom bass.

    Ibanez EDB 605

I bought this bass unseen from musiciansfriend.com. I meticulously researched and considered a variety of different 5-string basses including models by Fender, Spector, Yamaha, Tobias, Carvin, and others by Ibanez and decided to get this one. Looking back on it, I don't know why exactly I chose this one over others, but some reasons were the price and good reviews.

The action and feel of this bass is fantastic. The active electronics easily provide vastly different sounds with the twist of a knob. The B string is very solid (something hard to find on a bass in this price range with a 34" scale). The cut into the body under the D and G strings is very useful for slapping. Lastly, this bass …

The B string is very solid (something hard to find on a bass in this price range with a 34" scale). The cut into the body under the D and G strings is very useful for slapping. Lastly, this bass is built very solidly...you could smash it into a wall and I don't think it would be very damaged.

It's as heavy as it is sturdy, which can be a pain if you're playing standing up for a long time. Also, the paint or the finish or something has a chemical smell that can be kind of annoying.

Like I said before, it's very solid and heavy. I did find out the hard way that the paint can be rubbed off (a small speck on the bottom caused by my belt, I think). One serious problem that I had is that for some reason the bridge won't lower itself enough. In other words, the action is so good and low that the bridge won't go low enough to accomadate it (all the strings are lowered to their max, but there is still no buzzing). My friend told me I should saw down the nut, but I haven't tried that yet. I have had no problems with any of the parts coming loose or anything like that.

I am very happy with this bass. It has an amazing feel to it and can produce a variety of sounds. However, if I had a second chance I would have just bought one of the cheaper Ibanez soundgear basses like the SR 405 or something. The only real difference is the material of the body, which is solid and has the cut in for slapping, but is also very heavy. It's not really worth the extra money.

This bass is made in Korea, I think. It has a handle luthite of 24 frets and has an active electronic: bass, middle, trebble + knob a volume and a balance between the two microphones.

    UTILIZATION

The strings are a bit remote from the handle, which does not ease the acute sounds, especially when playing in tapping.

In addition, the strings are very close to each other for a 5 string: suddenly, it's nice when you play with your fingers or a pick, but not practical slap (you must be careful not to resonate strings that do not play).

Access is very easy to acute, mild cavity is dug under the D and G strings to facilitate the slap game. Another good point: it is relatively light…

Access is very easy to acute, mild cavity is dug under the D and G strings to facilitate the slap game. Another good point: it is relatively lightweight and compact (it is much thinner than a jazz bass).

In contrast, the neck pickup is placed close enough to it. To slap on the brink, we must be vigilant. For the three-finger slap, not practical. But hey, that's detail!

    SOUNDS

The electronics are really effective. It affects three pots of the equalizer, the balance between the pickups, and we always find the sound you want. I think it is sorely lacking in treble from the 14th fret (mostly slap and tapping).

However, in the bass and mids, it provides a warm, round, which groove to perfection.

I use a Trace Elliot 130 GP7sm to play pop / rock, metal, funk, ... In short, it is very versatile. I also occasionally a Digitech BNX 3.

    OVERALL OPINION

I use it for 5 years and I think it has good arguments for it in terms of value for money and versatility. It is still very special to play (I did not realize because I'm used to but when I ready, I am told it is bizarre to play or that one hurts). This is probably the strings close to each other and away from the handle.

For fans of big technique (tapping and slap excessive), it is not the best choice. Otherwise, it remains remarkable efficiency for a conventional game. A better definition in the highs would place probably at the top of its class. If I had to go back, I do not know if I would do this choice, but in any case, I still advise.

    24 frets
3-band active EQ (a real plus)
    2 humbuckers passive

    UTILIZATION

    - The handle is it nice?
The handle is very comfortable to play

    - Access to acute (last string) Is it easy?
Who can do more can do less easily accessible by as few positions.

    - Ergonomics is it good (in terms of shape, weight ...)?
The bass is well balanced, no worries, but remains heavy to very heavy

    - Do you get easily a good sound ...?
Yes, its not typed with too little character. This has the effect of making it versatile, but not really engaging

    - Are they suitable for your style of music?
Metal at the time. Did not perform miracles but sit well rhythmic

    - With what (s) amplifier (s) or effect (s) do you play?
    The "Starter Pack" HARTKE: HA3500 + VX410 + VX115

    - What kind of sound you get and with what settings ("crystalline", "fat ",....)?
    Rather dull.

    - What are the sounds you prefer, you hate?
Knob the "medium" is a real plus because the preamp not being of exceptional quality, allowing it to dig the sound without making it become bloated by adding too much bass. Therefore, the rock sound is nice. Slap sound much less

    OVERALL OPINION

I used it between 2000 and 2003 and is testing a friend's little there that made me want to recount my past, my joys and frustrations with this bass.

Globally and objectively, it's not a bad instrument, though its weight makes it difficult to wear for long periods and the sound have hardly any character.

I bought 3200frs at the time after a magazine article on bass (I think), who had noted and indeed: for this price, the violin is very correct, the mechanical hold well and the tuning easel easily adjustable.

Value for money more than respectable, especially hand
