Ibanez SR406
(Originally written by astroperenoel/translated from Audiofanzine FR)
Made in Korea.

The mechanical parts are quite average to lower production costs but the overall quality is good.

Classic bridge, Gotho machine heads, dual truss rod neck, narrow radius.

Comprehensive settings: volume, balance, 3-band EQ.

Wide sound range.

Rather good original pickups.

Weight and balance are ok.

Good sustain.

Very fast and easy-to-play neck.

The low B string is quite powerful.

But you'll have to spend some time fine tuning the string action to suppress fret noise and to get perfectly tuned overtones.

The best solution is to use heavy strings.

Typical Ibanez ergonomics, nice body.

Good overall balance, dynamics and tuning. It's value for money is great for a budget 6-string bass.

Versatile like most Ibanez instruments.

Its sound character is not very strong and the dynamic response could be better.

With a good amp and brilliant strings, it allows you to play every music style except for funk because the punch should be higher.

Slapping is difficult because the strings are very close to each other but the sound is great.

Normal fret wear for an instrument in this price range.

Heavy strings suit it best otherwise you get the impression you are playing with a rubber toy.

I used it for three years and it broke my heart when I sold it.

It's pretty intuitive so you won't need a lot of time to feel comfortable with it.

The sound is a bit soft but considering its price for a 6-string bass, its value for money is very interesting.

Buying a 6-string requires you to think about what you want to do. You just can't buy one on impulse.

Its affordable price proves that Ibanez controls its production costs very good.

It's an interesting instrument with a much lower price tag than superior models (e.g. SR 1306)!
