User Reviews Boss AC-3 Acoustic Simulator

iamqman's review" Nice pedal!"

Boss AC-3 Acoustic Simulator
This is Boss's newest edition to the acoustic simulator. This is virtually the same exact pedal as the Boss Ac-2 but this has one added feature of reverb. Within the level control knob you have a sub control knob that allows how much reverb you want in the signal. This is a nice addition to an acoustic sound.

When I first heard about the acoustic simulation pedals I was a little bit leery of how good the simulation would sound. Then I heard Slash from Velvet Revolver and Guns N Roses use one live in some gig I saw on tv. To my pleasant surprise it actually sounded pretty good. He was playing a Gibson Les Paul and those guitars can be very girthy and robust on tone and to get a guitar like that to sound like a wood hollow body it a big feat of strength.

SOUND QUALITY

The only difference in this and the AC-2 is reverb. all the same tone and simulation is the same. the tone of this pedal is decent for the playing who doesn't want to carry an acoustic guitar to a gig and only use it for minimal parts. You can just bring this pedal and your favorite electric guitar and have that acoustic sound quickly and easily for live uses.

This pedal does work and works very well. Let me be very clear, it will not replace the tone of a real acoustic guitar no matter how trashy a cheap acoustic guitar sounds. If you have a cheap acoustic guitar, that guitar will sound better and more natural than an electric guitar using this pedal. However, this is great for a gigging musician that has an acoustic part in a sound and needs to switch quickly to an electric part of a song.

OVERALL OPINION

At new these pedals come in at around $129, which isn't bad for a pedal like this. You get a great sounding simulation for acoustic and a nice added reverb section.

I would not recommend this pedal as a replacement for an acoustic guitar in a recording session. This pedal will not get the hollow tone or organic feeling of a real acoustic guitar.

moosers's review

Boss AC-3 Acoustic Simulator
The Boss AC-3 Acoustic Simulator is an analog guitar pedal designed to make your electric guitar sound like an acoustic guitar. It has a 1/4 inch input as well as two 1/4 inch outputs - one to send to your amp and one is a line out. It is powered by either a nine volt battery or a nine volt power supply. It is not rackable as it is a stomp box.

UTILIZATION

The configuration of the pedal is pretty basic. You've got a knob to choose between different modes that includes standard, jumbo, piezo, and enhance. The other knobs control body, top, level, and reverb. It is easy to get a few different sounds from this, and is really an EQ that is specific for making your guitar sound more like an acoustic. I don't have the manual but this pedal is easy enough to use that I never had a need for one.

SOUND QUALITY

The sound quality of the AC-3 is about average. It is pretty hard to simulate an acoustic guitar with an electric, and this does an okay job of doing it. It won't blow you away, but does have a good amount of control to zero in on sounds that you might be looking to get. I have only used this with electric guitar, as that is what it is made for.

OVERALL OPINION

I've been using the Boss AC-3 Acoustic Simulator for about two years. I wanted it so that I wouldn't have the switch between acoustic and electric guitars during a live performance. However, I have found that it is worth it switch as you can't really replicate an acoustic with an electric. This being said, this pedal does a decent job of emulating it. If you really want an acoustic sound, just use an acoustic guitar!

COSM

Yes, it is a format 32 U rack

Yes

- Is the manual is clear and sufficient? ...?
Yes

SOUND QUALITY

- Are the effects effective and sufficiently ADAPTS GPs?
There continues to be reverb. I do not use it because I use rather reverb G-System

- Which instruments do you use?
Branch in loop 1 of my G-System
I use it with my prfrence humbucker neck to give more thickness to the sound.

- What are those you prfrez, you dtestez?
I juggle with two rglages, namely the "standard" mode and "enhanced"
For the moment I have not packed by t rglage "Jumbo".
Depending on the used mode and rglage the knob "Body", I must often adjust the knob "Level" under penalty of having a lightweight saturation. Indeed the parameter Body gives more chest sound when pushed to the maximum.
This is not a problem in itself, and even normal.

NOTICE GLOBAL

- How long have you use it?
2 weeks

- What is the particular feature you like best and least?
It must be clear, this pedal will never give you sound of acoustic guitar.
As against it renders very well the tone of a guitar transplanted into a sound system. If you know what I mean ....
It colors very well my clear sound and allows me to have anything other than a clear sound.

- Have you tried many other models before acqurir?
not. I bought the pedals, eyes closed and mouths ears ...
"Eh what!?! It sounds how this pedal?" I cry several times lol seller

- How do you report qualitprix?
Very good!

- With the exprience, you do again this choice ...?
Yes, I think trssrieusement buy a SECOND in the future to plug it into another loop of my G-System to no longer juggle rglages to switch modes the other (yes I know, I'm lazy)
