Patrick Eggle Guitars Berlin Standard

Chambered Mahabony neck and body. Ebony fretboard, Dunlop 6100 frets, Sperzel locking tuners, Wilkinson VS100 whammy bar, 2 custom wound Eggle pick-ups with Alnico II magnets. 2 way toggle switch, volume and 3 position rotary coil split, series or parallel wiring of the pick-ups.

UTILIZATION

Although it's a PRS style higher fret access was actually surprisingly good. The action was super low and the string tension just right for this to be a great guitar for burning.

SOUNDS

I've used this guitar mostly with a Mesa Dual Rectitifier Trem-o-verb, THD Flexi 50, Soldano Avenger with DeYoung transformers and VHT/Fryette Deliverance.
For me the guitar excelled at mid and high gain material. The Alnico 2 pick-ups are probably the only humbuckers I have come across that can cut like a single coil without the 60 cycle hum.
Sonically it's somewhere between a PRS and a Gibson Les Paul Custom...meaning you have a Les Paul type bottom end with the typical PRS midrange, Except the pick-ups with the Alnico II magnets will actually add a nice snap to the top. perfect when you turn up the gain and need to retain clarity.

OVERALL OPINION

The down side on the guitar is that it was on the small side, which was making a for an odd visual, unless you are a small guy. The upside of that was that it made for an incredibly comfortable playing position when sitting down while recording or practicing.
I also used a single cut Patrick Eggle with the same pick-ups, that had a tone control instead of the 3 way selector for series or parallel wiring and coil split and in hindsight that was a better set-up for me. If I were to change anything it would be having it with a tone control next time around. Other than that it was a guitar that exceeded my expectations. Also funnily enough out of the 6 Eggles I tried this one was in its own league.

I was there several years ago a "Berlin Plus". Still a great guitar unjustly neglected. P. Eggle is an English violin maker still in business. His Berlin + has something of the allure PRS, but + reduced while being as classy and very very light which surprised me a lot at the time (a luthier who examined me spoke of Maple for the body) .24 fret (for me a little too high and bulky), 2 zebra humbuckers-house
and split into mere memory that I can not define the personality (or strato nor paul anyway) but in any case quite reliable and present. Bridge-tailpiece fixed (it is also available with Wilkinson tremolo and flamed table in a little more expensive). The handle is a short scale Gibson type very rounded and close enough if I remember correctly, without the addition of varnish on the back (we feels good lines of wood in the palm when playing). certainly must agree to any type of hands-free access to the acute problem is more a set neck.

UTILIZATION

The handle was certainly great (I was inexperienced in settings at the time and I could not optimize timely as it should: allen wrench, etc.), very high jumbo frets but frankly m'insupportaient I knew nothing I had them replace the triangular thin as the ideal to me was the low / wide, short still wrong. It helped me make it sell because I thought that I did not handle me, in retrospect I should never have sold. It's one of my "grief" (sniff. ..) guitaristic. + Ergonomics that great, you do not feel its weight, however, is quality wood, the table is nicely rounded, I do not remember specific chamfer, but there is no need. I think it's one of the + ergonomic and light that I had. But I really do not remember most of the texture of sound.

SOUNDS

Berlin + is suitable for ANY style (see the full range and split singles 2 doubles), I played in band in the studio to rehearse and two concerts with it, its funky, clear and resolute distortion and it sounded good. I can not remember the color of sound pickups but at the time that me + tot equals the time as long as no flash or microphone and there, impeccable.

OVERALL OPINION

I did most unfortunately and I am very sorry. I would have known at the time (in the 90's) set the handle, I would have NEVER resold. I thought with malapatte, + reffrettage inadequate, it has increased the misunderstanding. Price = 5OOO or 6000 francs at the time if I remember correctly. Beautiful colors and beautiful tables, ergonomic and lightweight foolproof, a stylish look (oh, just thinking about it I entrust myself to cry, like ...) I advise those who seek style PRS also Elegant and original but much lighter + to go there, especially as Patrick Eggle + proposed models with other city names, and he would accept orders with customization. Well, I commend my cr ^ epe, and I leave you ...

UTILIZATION

THE first thing that catches my eye .. cest key ebony .. and the handle round and fairly short and narrow but very fast ... what a pleasure the ebony!
The handle is perfectly just (and Voui c otujours not the case) an agreement passes the box 15 nikel even after 2 hours of solotage on new ropes lol
(D hab I'm rather a fan of the Ibanez S handle so it changes me lol)

Electronics:
A button tone and volume.
A selector 3 position base.
But little more: a button is splitable and can therefore be split the neck pickup or the bridge pickup ..
Which gives the coup ben a lot of opportunities and more

A well on the rock twice, and split into carrment jousissif ..
So how to explain the ...
c is not a fenderien (more sorption), c not sound ibanesien (less cold), yet it is very bright and super sintillant ..

J'enclenche finally a reverb and a chorus chtite .. and surprise .. pk I do not know, but the chorus rpond great ... j have nothing that explains it lol ca me pretty surprised with the sound but the chorus is pretty staggering (and I'm not a fan of fact yet)

OVERALL OPINION

Belle, ergonomic, versatile with a real character, guitar studio or scene have. 17 years of loyal service and still enjoying it!
A PRS English handmade but untouchable in its price range (1000's era) or more versatile.
