I had been wanting one of these great guitars ever since I took one for a test drive, but REFUSED to pay retail for one, I feel that like gibson and P.R.S. guitars these things are WAY over priced for what you get so I kept my eyes open for a good used one, finaly one came up on ebay exactly the way I wanted it, ivory carved top standard with tune-o-matic bridge, the only thing missing was a rosewood fretboard which was a new option just AFTER I got mine, mine is the standard birdseye maple whitch is pretty, but does nothing for tone, thats the reason I got the stop tail version, it has better tone than the F.R. version, price paid was about $650., and it was in mint condition, still had th…

I had been wanting one of these great guitars ever since I took one for a test drive, but REFUSED to pay retail for one, I feel that like gibson and P.R.S. guitars these things are WAY over priced for what you get so I kept my eyes open for a good used one, finaly one came up on ebay exactly the way I wanted it, ivory carved top standard with tune-o-matic bridge, the only thing missing was a rosewood fretboard which was a new option just AFTER I got mine, mine is the standard birdseye maple whitch is pretty, but does nothing for tone, thats the reason I got the stop tail version, it has better tone than the F.R. version, price paid was about $650., and it was in mint condition, still had the plastic fretboard cover and absolutly no signs of usage on the neck or frets.

I tried out an early music man VanHalen years ago and didn't like it, the neck felt rough like it was finish sanded with 80 grit sand paper, the nut felt too narrow, the pickup switc felt cheep, and the finish wasn't as good as a $99. korean special, total crap! When peavey came out with the Wolfgang I thought, "O great here we go again"! Boy was I wrong I was totaly blown away! Peavey has never made anything worth a damn, music man HAD a great history behind it, and what do you know? PEAVEY blew music man out of the water!!!!
1st; I love the carved top vs. M.M.'s generic flat top.
2nd; I like the gibson style 1-11/16" wide nut vs. MM's fender style 1-5/8" narrow nut width.
3rd; I love the flat "shredder" style fret board radius of 15" (much like old charvels) vs. MM's generic fender style 10" radius.
    4th; higher quality pickup switch.
5th; incredible tung oil finished non-semetrical neck profile, you can tell peavey really improved apon MM's original design.
6th; 3x3 tunners, non of that 4x2 B.S. MM uses.
7th; tune-o-matic fixed bridge option, far superior tone over MM's bastardized fender style units.

For the price you should be getting a decent slab of mahogany for a body instead of cheap junk like "basswood". You can get an amercian standard strat for $900. made out of high quality alder, but peavey wants you to pay $1,500. for something with the same body material as a generic $299. Ibanez import special!??, What gives?

The quality far surpases the Music mans I've seen, the neck like the MM is rock solid, and has the best sculpted bolt on neck joint I've ever seen. I can however make out body seems on mine holding the finish up to the light, but this is comon to most 3 piece body guitars. The finish blows away the MM easilt very thick smooth and glossy, something that can't be said for MM.

A great guitar that is way over priced, peavey should either lower the price or raise the quality of body wood to something like mahogany or at least alder. Absolutely the best guitar I have ever played, and trust me I have played some of the best guitars made.

    Acquired on line at eBay,

I had been looking at this product on the Peavey web site as well as in music stores and I like the way it looked and played.

    I paid $400 for it.

This is a no nonsense instrument. It has a great sound, and a very solid feel in your hands, and slung over your shoulder, but at the same time, light and agile. The electronics are tight, and simple.

I also love the DeTuna, which allows you to drop the Low E string to a D with one easy pull of the knob, and then back to E with a push.

I wish the pickup switch gave a bit more versatility at the treble end of the range.

This is a solid instrumnet, for a mass produced guitar. You can see th…

This is a solid instrumnet, for a mass produced guitar. You can see the quality in the binding, the neck and fretboard, and in the way the hardware is attached.

Peavey's association with Eddie Van Halen has been a good thing! They have produced a real winner. A low priced, fast action, great sounding, and quality built guitar.
