Fender Cyber-Twin Combo

Back in April last year I was looking for a versatile amp to use with a '60s Cover band. I went to a few stores but after trying several modelling amps from different manufacturers, I began to get discouraged. Finally I tried the Fender Cyber Twin 2-12 Combo at Guitar Center. I paid $1200 and some change to get it out the door.

I was impressed that the Cyber-T could sound almost just like some old Fender Tube amps I used to have (Tweed Deluxe, Blackface Super Reverb). It sounds like an honest amp, not just a DSP model. It fit the bill exactly for what I needed. It also has the MIDI, Stereo outs and a huge Effects compliment. I found that I could create new amp designs that help me on the Gigs I am getting today. A growing online user community insures that I can get new and old Amp designs I hadn't thought of or didn't have time to create. A Footswitch, Casters and Cover are even included!

The onboard Tuner works O.K. but is a bit over-sensitive. The Display is very nice but can be difficult to see at outdoor gigs in the sun.

Construction seems very good. I have been gigging and taking the CT with me in Pickup beds and Car trunks and it always works the same every time.

You know, I read and hear many discussions and arguments about Guitar Modelling Amps. The Fender Cyber Twin should not be included in these discussions. It is totally unique and will become a classic Fender in it's own right. I've had the opportunity to replace it and I won't. The Cyber-T is too good.

Characteristics are known to almost everyone and for details refer to offcial site. A major disadvantage in my opinion: no possibility of an additional baffle within the loop with another amp or tweak a walkthrough ... home. This point is logically determined by Fender to sell the Head model but ... a detail that has weighed heavily in my decision to separate myself after 3 years of loyal service. I bought in fact one of the first models came out and did it update by Fender France every year.

Excellent point: XLR outputs for recording or a cover impeccable front stereo. Side effects, algos bases are there with a very good return and a few bonus pearls of beauty such steps echo the questions that simulate famous reverb bands.

Major drawback in my opinion, the operating system (even on the issue 2) does not allow complete autonomy in the implementation of patches. We regret not being able to include cumulative effects blocks in quantities to address interesting sounds more experimental and original.

The knobs is mobile, in addition to being pretty fun, very convenient to avoid losing the north between different patches and still have before the real-time adjustments during the research phase and comparing sounds.

The trim is a thing which is interesting because according to the instruments we can properly manage the output level. Cons by the major weakness of this amp is the retitution low frequencies, the phenomenon of tailgating CSP is quite common and painful when using EQ scooped. Using quite often with my strat Hotrails neck in the worst trouble I had to limit the phenomenon of saturation involuntary.

UTILIZATION

The focntionnement is easy as pie and it happens fairly quickly for her to find a few that we know what we want. The docs are very well done but useless as the beast is easily accessible. The MIDI implementation is easy and using a controller is strongly recommended for use on stage.

SOUNDS

Question sounds, patches plants are quite interesting to understand the constitution and a patch of what not to do lollll. In fact (this is the case to say ...) by traversing the bank works there much difference between the dynamic sounds and a setup quite disconcerting tandem compressor / noise gate.

The sounds are clear ... it's imperial "Clear" his favorite field, and the crunch and distortion very correct without resorting to pedals. That said it is important to note that this is an amp very uncomfortable in the bass. For me the real problem is that this amp sounds good at low speeds (up to 2 masters), but once you start typing in the yield (master 3 or 4) are sometimes exposed to problems bass response. The only remedy is to play with microphones or opt for a simple EQ balanced but ...

OVERALL OPINION

This an excellent and quite expensive extra amp for blues guitarists, pop and other soft enough currents. I do not recommend to be the starting point of a basic config used on stage and in recording. As soon as one turns to rock and we need to boot, you can also have problems with painful distal who no longer follows. Otherwise the power is quite satisfactory for small and medium-sized scenes when we stay soft in its register. Best used with a good scratch because the pieces of plastic and other ways ibamachin stick squatruc have some trouble to get it right the tagazou.

Other regrets: the effects section incomplete in terms of ability to edit patches and the addition of a baffle which is impossible unless to be clever.

Very, very comprehensive, it lacks an outlet baffle but with these 2 Celestions cash it without flinching!

UTILIZATION

Daily use is simple with 4 presets (Sound Settings) accessible by 4 switch pedals delivered and 4 front buttons. Big hand wheel to move from one preset to another,
EQ, reverb, Brightness, Gain, Volume and Master Volume is everything.

Programming
You've successfully programmed a car in this case you will quickly learn to concoct sound characters. The manual is complete

SOUNDS

Versatile combo
4 types of basic preamp:
Tweed (Bassman)
Blackface (Twin)
British (oriented Vox, Marshall)
Modern (Dyna touch, large saturation)

The clean tones with a Start or a Tele are unstoppable (Dire Straits, The Shadows, ...)
The crunch is also very good (Stevie Ray Vaughan)
The British provide for the Hard Rock on Gibson (Led Zep ...).

For saturation (Modern) I much prefer playing with my Gibson LP STD which combines perfectly with this type of amp for the strat everything will depend on microphones.

Noise Gate effectively although as always the HUM simple winding is difficult to make them disappear ...

OVERALL OPINION

That amp is very expensive at about 2200 euros but quality.

So if you find OCCAZ jump on a great product because it is versatile and flexible.
Power 2 x 65 watt Fender is not inconsiderable, attention to small apartment! It hits hard!

Complement by a MIDI pedal is required as the capabilities of the amp footswitch Fender unfortunately is prohibitively expensive (~ 500 euros) as dab, prefer a Behringer FCB1010 type (~ 190euros).

Fender warrants its materials 5 years but do not count on them to help you in programming the user support is not their battle cry.

It's a Fender amp with a tube prempli fender and fender hp: full range of sound amplifiers fenderiens is available.
