WholeWorldBand, a new app for iPad, gives you the opportunity to collaborate with artists and even get paid when commercial use is made of the song.

The new WholeWorldBand app for iPad was created by Kevin Godley, 10cc singer and music video director (U2, Bryan Adams, Paul McCartney, Blur…), who wanted to develop on platform on which artists and fans could collaborate using both audio and video.

WholeWorldBand is the result of this development and the app is now available for free on the iPad. You can create your own projects and let other complete it, or participate in others’ projects (Seed Artists). Each project can use up to 6 audio/video (Mosaic) tracks. To record, you can use the iPad camera and the internal microphone or a compatible external audio interface.

Registering on WholeWorldBand is free and 9000 tokens are automatically added to your account, you will need them to either create new projects or participate in existing projects. Si you are affiliated to any performing rights organization, you are invited to specify it.

Projects can be shared on the social networks (Facebook and Twitter) and even sold for commercial use. In this case, collaborators can earn money, with a percentage or fixed fee defined by the Seed Artist when creating the project. WholeWorldBand is in charge of collecting royalties for songs shared on the social networks and if a Seed Artists sells its song, he/she will have to pay the session price to WholeWorldBand who will then redistribute the fees to the contributors.

The WholeWorldBand app is still under development, a version for iPhone/iPod Touch is expected soon and the app could also support Audiobus and inter-app audio in the future, as well as effects and plug-ins.

Last, note that many artists are currently contributing to WholeWorldBand, including Stewart Copeland (Police), Phil Manzarena (Roxy Music), Dave Steward (Eurythmics) and Ronnie Wood who is offering a signed Les Paul guitar, among other prizes (PreSonus E5 monitors, Presonus HD-7 headphones, Rode iXY microphones and Sonoma GuitarJack 2 interfaces). To participate in the drawing, simply download the app and register before January 31st.

Discover WholeWorldBand now on the AppStore and at wholeworldband.com.
