Overdrive extremely simple, small but tough ...

UTILIZATION

Hyper simple: one button for level General for output, another for the determination of overdrive. It can not be easier. The grip is instantaneous.

SOUND QUALITY

It is a small pedals, and it never shoed a great job
Personally, I find it just indispensable in my set (all lamps + Fender Stratocaster, Les Paul or SG) because it provides additional heat to the clean channel of the amp: it can go a little crunch (which I find really beautiful qualis so the amp) until a vritable OVD that sounds actually quite vintage with its quality (a sound that for once does not resemble the OVD / distos plastic boxes or multi-effects " who do everything ") and its defects, in this case may sound a bit hollow and lacking bass or low-mids, but it is easily corrected. Basically it brings the saturated indniablement a real plus, qq is the source of saturation, Fuzz, Distortion channel of distortion pedals (or all ).
In his résumé sound quality is my taste, excellent for use but limited apprciable: boosteur and cruncheur signal, it gives a small and authentic vintage ct your riffs and arp management, as long as the guitar and amp are worthy of the name ...

OVERALL OPINION

This is one of my pedals Premire. I bought it (used of course!) There are more than 15 years, and my date MODEL 1978, almost my age! pod is everywhere, quail, fatigue, but the sound has never moved and I have always agreed. I have since tried on a lot of overdrive pedals (VOX, Marshall, Ibanez Tubescreamer ...) and even if bcp of them sound good, my left prfre Boss this little yellow lights almost constantly, even in the clear. Obviously the sound - trs 70s - may not be suitable for the heavy metal, fusion, or stratum chorus, but for fans of true rock, it quickly found its place in bcp compos ...

Boss introduced this pedal back in 1977 and back then most guitar players were using a fuzz box to get their distortion tone. This was not that type of circuitry so there was some backlash to this pedal but as the guitars tones were changing more and more people started to pick up this pedal. This would be one of the pedals that set the stage t what would become some of the most legendary Boss pedal of all time and for that much some of the best overdrives pedals of all time.

This pedal is more of an overdrive pedal than it is a distortion pedal. It does distort but give the necessary drive that breaks up the front of an amp to get a good low gain distortion tone.

SOUND QUALITY

This pedal sounds pretty good in front of an already overdriven amp. There isn't loads of distortion in this pedal but what many would consider a boost pedal compared to today's standard in high gain and distortion. It only has two control knobs and there really isn't much to dial in to get a very usable tone from this thing. You have level for your overall volumes and level and then there is overdrive which is your gain and distortion. There is no tone control knob as you would see in later pedals.

This pedal sound best in front of an already overdriven amp. It is great for getting that extra sizzle and sustain. The pedal also works well if you need a light drive for some bluesy tones with the neck pickup of a Fender Strat.

OVERALL OPINION

These pedals would be manufactured all the way up until 1985. They are obviously discontinued and the use market it the only way to go at this point. They have more revisions on this pedal and four of them are floating out there. They all sound pretty much the same and all were made in Japan. Boss would then replace this pedal with the Boss OD-2 and then more versions after that.

The Boss OD-1 was the predecessor to the now famous SD-1. It's a very similar pedal in many ways, except this pedal only has a level and gain knob. There is no tone knob like there is on the SD-1.

UTILIZATION

The Boss OD-1 is housed inside of the famous Boss enclosure that has basically become synonymous with the Boss name. It's an extremely sturdy and reliable pedal that'll withstand decades of abuse without a problem. It uses a FET boost which kinda sucks some tone and leaks a bit when it's off, but given its age, it's somewhat forgivable. Just keep that in mind if you're using this in your chain. You might want to get a true bypass looper or get in there and start soldering. I haven't read the manual on this particular item, but there really is no need for one. I mean, there are only two knobs...

SOUND QUALITY

This pedal is a great overdrive that works awesome with Marshalls. With the gain off and the level cranked, you get this wonderful overdriven sound on amps such as the JCM800. It gives it this really angry character but still sounds fairly natural. The same can't be said for the DS-1. When you start cranking the gain, you can really get into some pretty high gain territory, but you want to be careful as there's no tone knob. You'll want to watch the brightness as it might get too harsh for some people.

OVERALL OPINION

Since the SD-1 is around, this pedal is losing its relevance fast. It's also not as easy to find on the used market as the SD-1 is, and there's actually a good reason for that. The SD-1 is fairly close in tone, and the SD-1 is more versatile, so this pedal is mainly reserved for people who need "that" sound when trying to mimic some old school sound. If you're looking for an overdrive pedal, I recommend getting the SD-1 or the TS-9 instead of this.

Overdrives I have seen past the green and not ripe ... see my review. And I can tell you which one it's quite addictive!

Oriented medium, it offers a "fleshy", detailed sound, very light.
I use it full time OverDrive. The walls of his little acute lack of presence. It is very typical. Vnintage is enough for once.

For me, I say good for me, it sounds a little different, but better than a TS9. Many more "transparent", gasping. It fits perfectly to the amp. jcm 900 and angus young gibson sg microphone.

A marvel that deserves to be known and recognized. The drive is gradual but it lacks some bass. Be sure to give settings to the amplifier. Beyond that, it is pure bliss blues and rock if you want a vintage sounding stuff: Go for it!
