    Boss OS-2 Overdrive / Distortion

    Boss OS-2 OverDrive/DistortionPublished on 01/18/10 at 15:00
This is Boss' overdrive/distortion pedal. It is a single pedal with two effects. It is in the typical boss indestructible cage. I am a gigging guitarist in Nashville.

I do not own this pedal, it was sold to our bands rhythm guitarist at guitar center. Our rhythm guitarist was buying his first rig amp and all. They assured him this was a fantastic pedal. He paid around $90 including tax.

The distortion part of this pedal is good. It gives a nice range of distortion from thick and rich to brash metal.

As far as the overdrive part of this pedal is concerned, it failed miserably. After helping him try to tweak the dials every way possible, I could not get an overdrive sound out of it. I spe…

As far as the overdrive part of this pedal is concerned, it failed miserably. After helping him try to tweak the dials every way possible, I could not get an overdrive sound out of it. I spent a couple hours with this pedal to no avail. I could only achieve distortion sounds which as I said above, it does quite well.

I have never had a problem with Boss. Construction is solid and they seem to hold up well.

This is a distortion pedal and not an overdrive pedal. I quickly convinced him to take this pedal back and get a real overdrive pedal. If you are looking for a distortion pedal you would be much better off buying the DS-1 pedal as it is also a good distortion only pedal and you can pick it up for less than half of what the OS-2 will set you back. The best bet would be to get the DS-1 and an SD-1. You would have two pedals, but also two separate sounds and still be about the same price as the single OS-2.

    Boss OS-2 Overdrive / Distortion

    Boss OS-2 OverDrive/DistortionPublished on 03/27/02 at 15:00
Got this effect at Accent Music( in the nowhere that is Delaware)for $80.00. Thought it would expand the sound range of my fender deluxe amp.

If you crank the tone and drives high, you get a great grunge sound (on distortion).Cool overdrive, too.

Neither overdrive or distortion, combined or separate, are warm in the least. I've tried every tonal adjustment and it was still that raspy, stone-cold death metal sound. Also instead of having a moaning Marshall sound, it merely shrieks, with an annoying, ear-piercing tone. I had wanted to mimic the sound of my $180 marshall box on my new amp, but I just wasted $80. Was looking for a Hendrix tone, warm and endless to run my strat through(Texas S…

Well made, though. It's Boss, what do you expect?

Not my kind of effect, but alot of that is a personal thang

(This content has been automatically translated from French)
Effect: overdrive, distortion, or combination of both.
4 knobs: Level (output effect), tone (tone), drive (saturation) and color (allows overdrive, distortion or mixture of both).
    Input and output jack.
Powered by 9V battery, also has an output to 9V power adapter.
LED lights red to indicate that the effect is activated.

    UTILIZATION

The manual is pretty useless. Setup is very easy to use, as many say now, just turn the knobs! But the race of the knob "tone" is very limited because the position between 7am and 12am it proves virtually ineffective. Otherwise the general editing of the sounds can not be done more easily and you can get a fairly varied range of sounds but tha…

The manual is pretty useless. Setup is very easy to use, as many say now, just turn the knobs! But the race of the knob "tone" is very limited because the position between 7am and 12am it proves virtually ineffective. Otherwise the general editing of the sounds can not be done more easily and you can get a fairly varied range of sounds but that does not fit me. Against it by a jolly because it is very robust as all her sisters and cousins at Boss.

    SOUND QUALITY

This is where this pedal does not suit me at all, but then not at all. I use a Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus and I play rock / blues / pop. This pedal has its own color of sound, its cold, metallic attack me ears, like broken glass piercing the eardrums. In short it is not suitable at all the research that I and my style of music. After it is obviously a matter of taste, but not for me. The overdrive and distortion are only fairly ugly and extremely cold. As for the mixture of both, it could have been interresting but far too metal for my taste. Also it produces breath when you start to grow. It is simply not up to what it offers.

    OVERALL OPINION

I used it for 6 months trying to find a little something and make the most. Then I sold it. My quest will sound without it. But of course, of course it's a matter of taste and I was looking for a specific sound that was light years away from that proposed by the pedal (I'll repeat myself, so I ramble) is cold and metallic, and rather too aggressive with acute when does everything thoroughly. Having tried other Boss pedals I find that this is one of their worst product with the C3. For the price / quality ratio, I think we can find much better in this range or the range a little above. With experience, I prefer to forget the misfortune of 6 months, so I would do absolutely no choice. Since I found my happiness elsewhere.
