UTILIZATION

Easy! the bulk is in the settings: master, bass, treble, gain. The output "mix" helps to connect smoothly on a table. This can be useful, not just for guitar players: bassist, harmonica, singer why not!

SOUND QUALITY

The gain is very close to the legendary Ibanez Tube Screamer: it is precise, light crunch to overdrive. In "Flat" mode, the guitar sound is not distorted. We can even pair it with a tube amp overdrive to "hang" a little more.

OVERALL OPINION

It stung me my Tube Screamer along with an amp, a guitar and a microphone singing it two years ago. Needless to say, I was mortified. Until I found this pedal I was using for my overdrive directly my amp (Fender Blues Deluxe) a pod Line 6 which I was not fully satisfied, at least on overdrive. I've tried lots and then I found the Bad Monkey at a friend's harmonica and I was hooked. I found great before you even know it was almost three times less expensive than TS. All the more reason!

Originally purchased for the ability to adjust the bass. I intended to use it to boost my TS808. After several trials, this pedal so surprised that I'm using as overdrive over the drive channel of a Laney LH20 to give a dirtier and fat sound. For buffs, I now use ... a booster.
So everything depends also on the amp used, but the quality of this pedal is bluffing once properly adjusted.
I use it against by only with a P90 equipped guitar.

I advise anyone connected blues, rock and punk to have this pedal.

We are dealing with an overdrive pedal green. At first glance, all is said, even a cheap clone of tube screamer! Well not that much ... UTILIZATION

The good surprise is the cab sim output. Again, this is not a Cabulator or a software simulation parameters to 140 but as a little bonus pedal already cheap at all, it's really good. The sound is very honest and is sufficient in itself in a mix or to attack a sound card. We just plug headphones directly into it to play at night without waking the kids and best of all, in bypass (thank you buffer) was a clean sound quite credible even though it lacks some roundness.
I have not tried but if one was to attack with transo amp, I go by the cab sim with a flat EQ and gain ratio / minimum volume on the amp to use as active pregnant.

OVERALL OPINION

This is probably not the best OD (it would hurt those who we pay them 3 or 4 times that price) but it is really very good, typed remaining versatile. Nice bonuses and unrivaled value for money.
It is indispensable at this price point, it must always in a flight case to troubleshoot / repeat / travel light. And then they can work with headphones. Do the math: not a bad OD (60-80 Euros) + a Voxplug (35 euros), it comes to more than double the Bad Monkey. Whatever the use, it is competitive.
Initially I bought it to boost my lead, a little snitch but for the price I did not risk much. In the end, it attacks my clean channel, it is always on and I work with my basic sound. So that's my drive channel (richer medium) which I use to "boost" with the volume turned up and just need the gain.
I do not know if the other pedals in the range (metal, grunge, ...) are at the height of the Bad Monkey but if this is the case, every guitarist should have one according to their favorite music!

The sound is very good (for this type of pedal of course) .. I did not for a long time and among my collection of overdrive pedals of this type (I also have an entire farm p'tit!) Is one of my favorites! .

It's an overdrive pedal, ie saturation "soft", which mimics the response of a tube amp a little pushed. But beware, contrary to what one might write, there is no lamp in it! It is analog, but transistors.

The connection is very simple: an instrument input on one side, two outputs (amp / PA) on the other. The output sound is a great idea: it has a speaker simulation and can therefore play without amp, directly into the sound system, a stereo or a computer. Very useful to save or show up in repeat (or together) hands in the pockets with just the guitar and the pedal! In addition, it is possible to connect the two outputs at once, to register while hearing his amp.

It works with a standard 9v battery or an adapter (not included, argggggh). The battery cover opens with lugs réctractables that I find very useful, certainly much more than the screw system from Boss.

Finally, the construction of the pedal is very good: it seems well finished, very strong (the box is metal), and it is very heavy for its size, which avoids sending any ballads kick. In the same vein, the knobs are a bit hard, they will not move if you want them to move. And in addition it has a color and fun names, I like it: o)

UTILIZATION

The general configuration of the pedal is super simple, but at the same time quite complete: there is a knob "level" to wake the neighbors too, a "gain" (saturation), a "low" (to boost or cut low frequencies) and a "high" (same with the treble). Casually that allows many things ... Editing sounds is childish: you turn, and it changes. It quickly fix the settings we like, and then it was only to reproduce them. As for the manual, it is also succinct useless.

The effect of the knobs is a little different on other pedals I tried, or EQ an amp, for example, if you put the bass to zero, the sound is used: the low frequencies are not cut, but simply put somewhat muted. The knobs are used on all their race, which provides an amazing variety of sounds with this little pedal.

Oh, and worse to the fact I just realize a very nice thing by plugging headphones into the output "mixer" gives her a very cushy safe to play at night when everyone is sleeping ... Very handy.

I use a Vox AD30VT and a half box Aslin Dane to play mostly Blues and Blues-Rock.

In sound, that's exactly what I expected of an overdrive: a soft, warm saturation. It is difficult to define, but it is a history of more than grain noise distortion. On the other hand, the sound of the pedal enough that depends on the amp: I am well aware with the Vox, by moving from a model to another. As I said, the knobs very accurate and usable throughout their run to a great variety of sounds, dominated by the bass or treble, from crunch to overdrive. In addition, the versatility of the pedal is accentuated by the fact that all combinations sound. Thus, even with the treble and bass bottom to zero, the sound is warm and not strident. With my semi-hollow, it is against by not putting too deeply serious if you do not want to take off the wallpaper (it would sound almost like a bass!), But it should be very useful on guitars colder style Stratocaster.

Finally, the pedal continues to sound good even at low volume (due to the level knob), which is very useful if like me you live in a studio with two ...

I use it for some months now. Before I owned a Boss Blues Driver that I later sold due to lack of money, which I think was a little less versatile than the latter, even if it has more gain.
